Not a good idea to use as support... don't be cheap, buy something stronger.
Ouch...

It all depends on the situation. A high-quality, thick rope can hold thousands of pounds without even stretching. Cheap rope, on the other hand...
I've always used lumber and/or metal for supports. Rope is only used for temporary rigging for me.

If anyone wants to know my fail story of the days.
Basically I (had) this pipe slider under my deck supported by rope, and only rope. The rope wasn't super awesome but it wasn't some cheap walmart stuff.
Anyway, I've had this thing up for a good amount of time and many people have tried it. Well, today I was just training on it as usual and was able to complete it multiple times. Then I just said, I'm gonna keep doing this for like 10 minutes... fail or pass.
Well around the 8 minute mark I had this one attempt. I made it to the end and was preparing for the final swing, I brought my legs up as high as possible for the swing right before the final one like I always do and SNAP, the rope broke on me, and my feet (or atleast my knees) where the highest point of my body.
So I just fell 8 feet down, landing straight on my head, onto concrete.
Ouch.
At least I learned my lesson.

Head injuries are serious stuff.
Anyway, did the ropes snap in half, or did they break where they were tied?

I just saw a commercial for this... TwistnStay... made from steel alloy and covered with industrial grade foam... and what looked interesting is when the guy was hanging off of them and said each one holds up to 300 pounds... twistnstay.com/Default.asp?bhcp=1Whether they're as good as they say or not, I don't know... but you can try 'em out and be our human guinea pig.

I want to guess that if he had the money for that, he would have used something better to support the Pipe Slider in the first place.

Ah of course. I'm sure you can find some discarded steel cables at a junkyard or something.

Naw I'm rich, I have 100 acres of land and could quite possibly build a full scale replica of the course if I had workers and anyway to keep it in good shape.
