Just thought I'd start a bit of a discussion here. I've been moving and trying to eat a lot healthier. Not eating fast food as much, not snacking on garbage like twinkies, eating more vegetables etc... But I'm a coke addict. As in, the soda... Is that so bad? Will it really help me in the long run by not drinking soda anymore or should I just not care and drink it anyway? Your thoughts, soda... good or bad? How does it affect your health, training etc? I was in the same situation (Drank 5 cokes or more a day). I was able to overcome it though. I now only drink water strictly, no more soda. When I was doing track and field, if I drank a coke within the same week, I would throw up after practice. If I didn't, then I didn't. So that's why I stopped.

Vegetable smoothies aren't that bad, Badalight.
Bruce Lee used to blend and drink RAW BEEF. That was his protein shake.
Be happy we have whey protein powder today.

I just eat and drink whatever I feel like having and I'm in pretty good shape...I don't drink much soda, and I do in fact eat and drink healthy most of the time, but if there's something that I really like that's bad for me (BBQ potato chips, fries, etc.), I'll eat it anyway when I get the chance.
P.S.---I LOVE fruit smoothies :^)
P.S. 2---20th post :^D

Yeah, you can still eat and drink fairly unhealthily and it won't make that much of a difference, but to reach your real, full potential, you more than likely need to keep it clean.

Is drinking 1 can of soda a day really that bad?
I'm with you Badalight, Soda is like my crack.
Nothing else tastes refreshing...
Try 7-up, or diet soda. (Although I find diet soda worse than orange juice)
Maybe get those mini cans. Idk... thats what I'm doing. Little by little, taking more junk food out of my day.

I don't know about the cancer stuff, but fake sugar is definitely more dangerous than real sugar. Even if all the cancer rumors are false, it still makes it harder for your body to burn fat.
But seriously. If you really want to stop drinking soda, just suck it up and quit. Cut out a can a day, or something, and just drink a ton of water.

What about sodium? While something could have little or no caffeine or low sugar or have low cholesterol or low fat or low calories, it could have a ridiculous amount of sodium.
For example, when I first saw the commercial for Wendy's Sweet and Spicy Asian Boneless Wings, it looked interesting so I checked the info on their site and that sucker has just over 2500mg of sodium. And that's just one 550 calorie meal. It's probably the sauce, but anyway.
The recommended daily amount of sodium is about 2300-2400mg. So that example has over a day's worth of sodium for what's essentially a quarter of your diet that day, calorie-wise. Too much sodium could lead to high blood pressure which leads to heart problems and diseases and stuff. While our bodies need some sodium to function, Americans at least take in many times more than the recommended on a regular basis.
I didn't learn about the sodium stuff until sometime last year, but ever since then, sodium's the first thing I usually look at when I check labels.

Yeah... I doubt that's true. Statistics like that are usually BS. And losing fat isn't enough to get in better shape. A lot of people lose fat and don't build muscle, leading to what is known as "skinny fat"; essentially skinny, but still soft and doughy looking. Also, instead of a bottle of water, I suggest tap water. If it's too bad to drink (and I doubt it since this isn't Mexico ), buy a filter for, like, 40 bucks.

I don't have that much weight to lose... lol, I'm only 135. And like I said, I only drink it on weekends, specifically every other weekend. Though, I do drink a hell lot of kool-aid...
