O and rider, don't use camstudio. It's garbage compared to recording the actual stream. Well how else am I going to record it if I can't get TVants to go through VLC?

Heck that's the easiest program to use.. the hardest part is GETTING Friggin TVAnts to start streaming.. VLC just uses the same feed. Quite frankly for me (a self-proclaimed computer idiot) it was easy to figure out after futzing with it for a while.

They don't want to co-operate with each other XD And when I try to get the URL from the stream... The URL it gives me isn't the stream... So Right Clicking isn't how to get it and the ones from the first post in the other topic don't work with VLC. EDIT: Well I got it to stream but the record thing must not be in the "capture device" XD

Get TVAnts running with a video up. Once you have the video you want... right click the screen and check "properties".. THAT is the URL you need to put in the "Network" section of VLC.
The recording part is trickier. You hit the "capture" and save it with the right extension. Personally I use .asf but others might use another extension. Please remember.. as soon as you hit okay it starts recording.

That wasn't working before but it worked when I tried it before the post.. And yay.. you read the edit... oh wait..

Remember to hit "play locally" so you can see what you are recording

P.S. You have to have TVAnts open. Just sift around until you have a working feed to get a proper URL to test out. You'll see the option there once the feed is running.
When you hit "Convert and save" a new window pops up. That will be on the top left of your screen on the first line.

You might not be saving it correctly. This was the tricky part. I saved it something like Test.asf or something like that on the actual save line. Try that.

Not sure what to say at this point.. I need a picture.. "you are doing it wrong".. because if there is a picture running through TVAnts and you are streaming TV Ants through VLC.. there shouldn't be just audio. That's the problem I always had with CamStudio. Something is missing and I can't figure it out. Maybe someone can help. Just so I won't go crazy.. make sure that TVAnts is showing something you can see.. not just any stream will do.. have an actual broadcast..

I could see the video fine while streaming.. but the output didn't have the video though.. I don't know what's going on with that.

Are you hitting "play locally"? Because if you don't hit that you won't see what you are recording.

Well I tried that.. it worked kind of... but it only recorded sound.... Make sure that when you view your saved file you don't view it in Windows Media Player. When I went to check my asf/wmv recording in it I ran across this problem, but when I opened it in vlc it was perfect.

If worse comes to worser and worser comes to worstest, you can always hold a video camera in front of the computer screen.
(Yes, that is a joke (but it could work (maybe not)))

Go through exactly what you're doing, step by step. It's impossible to diagnose like this.
