I finally got it built... pictures/vid up sometime later this week when I decide not to be lazy and when my hands heal...
So the obstacle itself, isn't to difficult. I was suprised actually, it really doesn't drain your stamina at all.
My arms were not tired at all after doing it for awhile, well... it works your forearms a bit but only if you do it over and over again like I did.
What it DOES do it hurt your hands. It takes very little strength, really you can just dead hang and swing to the next globe.
So it's more technique than strength.
After I was finished my hands hurt like hell.
Also, keep in mind mine is the regular globe grasp, NOT descending so I don't know what difference in technique there is.
The obstacle itself isn't too hard, but it takes a bit of technique and the gaps make it kind of scary, mostly it's all in your head though. I think my gaps are a bit larger than the gaps on the real one though so who knows.
It took me about 30 tries to beat, but the first 20 were spent trying to get past the first gap. Now I can beat it but it's still sort of tough.
Like I said, it's the regular one and my gaps are a bit longer, so it's harder than the current version by quite a lot, but still tougher than I expected.
I WAS able to do them, the devil steps, and my cliff-hanger all in a row though so I'm making progress. I used to not even be able to beat my cliff-hanger.

Cool, how many globes is yours? I know the original had 14.
Can't wait to see some pics.

Nice, can't wait to see pics or a vid. Something did catch my ire though:
Bit contradicting since you have the straight version instead of the descending, but saying there could be two different techniques if any which could be substantial enough for anyone to fail in the future. You did say you have longer gaps, however when moving straight and the same way but lower can increase your speed and make something potentially easier (at the same time who knows -- could be harder but everyone who tried just did it well enough to not fail) so I could just be taking something out of context.

Cool, how many globes is yours? I know the original had 14. Can't wait to see some pics. Mine is also 14 G4fan: IMO the normal version would be harder than the descending just because of the fact that mine isn't descending. I have no way of judging this since I havn't tried out both versions but I'd just assumed downhill is easier. It's like running downhill, it isn't as hard, though I guess it's easier to trip... whatever. Pretty much the only times I fail it are when I don't get a good enough swing and my grip is screwed up, on a downward version it'd be a lot easier to get a good grip. I'll get pics up whenever I stop feeling lazy, maybe tomorrow actually... pics won't be HQ though most likely I'll have a video instead of pictures. You can see me either owning it or failing horribly.

Good job. Looking forward to the video. I replicated a globe grasp once, but it only had three globes. I had to stop, because the rafters in my basement just couldn't take the weight of my body hanging off of the globes and they just tore right out of the rafters haha. Now I only have two lol.

Ha, that's pretty funny. Yeah, mine is pretty safe though. I built it under my deck so unless my deck isn't strong enough to hold 135 pounds it won't be coming down. Also, the screws or bolts I used are like 8 inches long and really wide, it's incredibly sturdy.

The bolts I used were about as thick as they could be, and I screwed them in about as far as they could go. But, they still didn't support my weight. I have really cheap rafter wood in my basement though. I'll still try to find a way to get them to stay in the rafters.

No vid today as I have flu like symptons. I attempted the obstacle and failed hard. My body is so weak right now. Need a few days to recover and then I'll post it.

In response to the Globe Grasp vs. Descending Globe Grasp, I get the feeling that they are two very different obstacles. The orginal as Badalight mentioned is very much a technique and mind related obstacle. Whereas I think the descending version would take more strength because at just about all times on the obstacle, you're holding yourself up with one arm. Just my thoughts on it though.

I agree, though I think the dead hang technique on the original version hurts your hurts a lot more than on the descending version.

Made the video, I probably won't be posting pictures because my camera only does video...
Anyway, don't expect AMAZING quality, the camera itself isn't very good and my camerman is 4 feet tall and has never held a camera in his life.

How wide were the gaps between globes? Just an estimate is fine. I'm planning on making myself one, and don't really know what a good length would be.

I don't know, and my gaps are even larger than the Sasuke ones, so unless you want it to be harder than it is I don't suggest copying me. The only reason I did the lengths I ended up with was because i didn't have much to work with, I have these boards under my deck that stick down, and they are separated by gaps, so I put the left globe first on the first piece, then the right globe on the next piece. Then I SKIPPED a piece and put the left one, then the right... etc. Rinse and repeat. if you watch Sasuke, the 2 globes arn't completely next to each-other, but they are close, and then there is a gap before reaching the next group, or it's just my imagination, but that's how I always saw it. So it's like o_______o_______o __o_______o_______o Hope that atleast helps a little bit... I can measure it if you want but I'm sure mine are a bit longer. It doesn't make the obstacle impossible, just harder. I beat it twice today.

It's Sunday.......... .__. Hurry up, I wanna see it!
Any chance you could include a close-up of the globe things themselves? I'd like to see how you made it.

I think I include some close up shots, but if you want to inspect it you'll have to pause the video.
And the quality isn't too great on my camera.
okay okay, I'll upload it after my work out.

If you don't mind, I might hijack this thread and post my Globe Grasp video. It's nearly a year old, now.
