Gonna sound like a alcohol for this one, but I'm learning how to be a bartender (When I go to College, I wanna have a decent paying job and bartenders can make some awesome tips!!! [ For Dummies, Bartenders DO NOT drink] ) Currently learning about Vodka and it's distillation along with the mainstream brands and their flavors along with how to make a wide variety of vodka cocktails.
The are a few main elements with a "great vodka". The main rule is that it must be clear, you don't want your vodka being funky colors unless flavored. Another rule is that you want the vodka to have a distinctive taste so it doesn't seem like a copycat to other vodkas. One of the Final Things, is that the vodka has to look marketable. Why does UV have crappy sales you ask? Well It doesn't look appealing. Let's look at the Vodkas that are suppose to be flavorless and distinct.
I'll start with Smirnoff, one of the original vodkas, probably the best vodka on a budget and very cheap. It can have a distinctive crisp flavor (for starters i haven't tasted any of these, I'm going by what I've learned from adults) and it has some flavors (Blueberry is a good example) that are very flavorful but not too sweet. One of the best things about, it's consistently in the top ten for World's Best Vodka's.
Moving on to Absolute, this is a great vodka if you don't want a hangover the next day. It's got a sweet warmth on the end. It comes in many flavors for great vodka martinis, with it's most famous flavor (Absolute Pepper) being used as the key ingredient in Bloody Marys. Every time I make a Bloody Mary with that flavor it leaves customers dazzled by the flavor.
Let's Talk about Skyy next. Skyy is a very tasty vodka that is said to be the best all-around. It always has a great warm feel in it for the back of your throat but you seldom taste the "spike: from the alcohol in it. Comes in some great mainstream flavors that are lusciously delicious. The Price is around $20 a added bonus.
Three Olives is a Big Favorite in the UK, it's home region. I describe it like a Lollipop, it comes in flavors like Bubble (Gum) and Root Beer, and is on the same page as Skyy with a luscious flavor. This is especially noticeable in Bubble and Root Beer, a couple of the odd-ball flavors.
Grey Goose is one of the best vodkas voted by the public. It's always smooth, always crisp and depending on how it's distilled, can be creamy (A Creamy Flavor normally comes from distilling vodkas with Oats or Potatos) It's got some great flavors and it's one of the favorites straight up with customers.
Belvedere is considered to be potentially the best vodka in the world. This goes back to the distillation with potatos, for it's a potato vodka. It's got a really creamy flavor, and is one of the smoother vodkas out there.
Now I'll discuss the rest. Ketel One, don't know to much about it, i here it's a Smirnoff Clone. Stolinaycha, same deal as Ketel One, possibly a Smirnoff knockoff, but I'm going by what I've seen on their website. Fris is a very uncommon Vodka however I here it's very similar to Absolut and very cheap as well. It has all the elements of a great vodka.
Now I'll talk about some not listed, First there's Vox, which is high on the list of premium vodkas (It's up there with Belvedere) Chopin is another Potato Vodka currently #1 in the World. Van Gogh is good to sip on. Cold River Vodka is alright from what I here. The Last One I'll talk about Johny Love Vodka, It looks pretty interesting based on the website. I only know about it from VH1's Megan Wants a Millionaire though.
Now I'll Finish this, let's rate the 9 you have.....
Honorable Mention: Chopin
9th Place: Stoli
8th Place: Ketel One
7th Place: Fris -- taste may be good but sales kill it....
--
Get's a Little tough here because all the remaining vodkas are very popular and mainstream
--
6th Place: Smirnoff (We Love it, but it's taste can't beat the big guns out there)
5th Place: Three Olives (It's flavor is on the same level as Skyy, but the price drops it down a spot)
4th Place: Skyy (Very great, very manageable on a budget, Taste is hard to beat, and it's marketing is sexy, seductive, and tasteful)
3rd: Absolute (If you don't get a hangover the next day and can drink it with water, whats not to like)
--
Top 2!!!
2nd Place: Grey Goose (It's Up there, but can't be the Creamy Taste of Belvedere, like Van Gogh is very good to sip on with it's flavors though)
1st Place: Belvedere (Potato Vodka just can't be beaten, it's Creamy, It's Smooth, It's Crisp, and it's alcohol content is noticeable but nice on the back of your throat)
There You Have It, My Opinion on these Vodkas!
