me and my dad have been arguing if peanut butter is sweet or savoury he says savoury and i say sweet

That's really dependant on the recipe used.
For instance, most "reduced fat" peanut butters have a significant amount of added sugar. As a result, some can be quite a bit more sweet than savory. I prefer my peanut butter more savory and creamy, so I go with the regular stuff.
As a side note, briefly microwaving your peanut butter before using/eating it can be good. As long as you don't do it long enough to liquify the peanut butter or melt the plastic container, it can do wonders for the roasted peanut smell of the peanut butter that is so quickly lost.
Short answer: savory unless it's some nasty brand, reduced fat, or some novelty food created by an insane chef.
