Anyone else ever wonder why they tend to show results in the introduction of the tournament? I feel like it takes away from a lot of tournaments, especially when they spoil Complete Victories.
Unspoiled just seems like it would be a more entertaining and intense viewing, like Imagine 5,6,18,19,20
In 5,6,18,19 you could have gotten the feeling that no one was going to clear stage 1 especally 5,6,19 with them going 3/4 of the way without a stage 1 clear.
Stage 2 in 5,19,20 would have been intense too.
Then you have the winner tournaments. I just don't get spoiling.

Stage 2 in 5,19,20 would have been intense too. Then you have the winner tournaments. I just don't get spoiling. I don't understand it either. My hunch is that they probably assume that the majority of viewers fall into the "general masses" category so won't know who the person is. Not to mention that in many cases they tended to pick non-All Stars which is why I think the above kind of checks out. The issue being that a lot of the results that get spoiled have competitors who are easily identifiable from their outfit the moment you see them. Examples being Bunpei in 12, Shinji in 11, Koji Yamada in 15 etc. In the latter case there was only one person wearing orange pants who was shirtless and they show him on the Jumping Bars during the intro. The Kanzen spoiling is also kind of annoying as well. Especially in cases like 4 and 31 where there's only one Finalist, 24 is more forgivable because there were 5 almost equally capable competitors attempting the tower, but still. Not to mention that the way the competitor who wins is edited in the tournament is a blind giveaway usually, so knowing there's a Kanzen + focus on a particular competitor = spoiled. Akiyama suddenly got heaps of screentime after two Stage 2 fails in 4, Yusuke was the only competitor left standing after Stage 1 in 31 who hadn't been digested who could've won and was getting the amount of focus that he was. I guess they show it in the Navi/start of the tournament to drive more continued interest throughout the show and hence ratings, especially given how seldom someone wins, but yeah. Something else that really grinds my gears is how especially in the RISING era, they spoiled a lot of potentially exciting results in the Navi. They rebranded the Shin Sedai in 28 and showed them in the Navi, and it just turns out that they're the best four runs that tournament. Asa was a member despite having no notable prior track record which gave away that he was going to/had done well. Hashimoto was dropped implying he had failed early. Same story with 29 and 30; Yusuke and Kawaguchi both respectively hadn't had notable successes yet get spotlighted, and both end up having their breakout runs in those tournaments. It's a shame because unexpected breakouts are the bread and butter of a good tournament for me, yet the Navi/editing just turns them into predictable runs. There's also the false marketing as well. I think in some situations it can be done well; but here it's usually just led to disappointment/confusion. They heavily hyped the new Final for 39 only for it to never be attempted or officially revealed, most of the time it's obvious that the person they show running is a tester, and they even alluded to someone on the Final in 15's intro but that obviously never happened. Needless to say it's a lot better now.

38 was still the worst offender with that goddamn Morimoto fluff piece saying "100 never won"...
My guess is they're worried people will tune out if it seems like no one will make it so they reveal people indeed got that far to avoid less interest (which is why 19 had that tester in the intro and 25 had that other tester at the end demonstrating the UCH gap we never got to see beaten in competition). Take 16 for example, no one reached the Pipe Slider and the only one who did in that one was Bunpei (Koji Yamada did, but he didn't even get to move the bar) because they wanted to show the Devil Balanco wasn't impossible (and it went from being impossible to being too easy) or 30 which showed Nagano beating the wall after failing it in 28 and 29 because they were desperate to show he beat it before we even get to see his run.

It's funny how 38 was the only Kanzen tournament that didn't actually spoil the Kanzen during the intro or in the Navi, but it was the most obvious by a considerable margin, mainly because everyone knew 37 just delayed the inevitable, and realistically who else could it have been. But yeah, the "100 never won" thing gave it away entirely. That said, it didn't bother me massively because his win was consolidated already and he was already LMS at that point. Tbf I remember with 29's trailer/intro they showed a tester doing the Crazy Cliffhanger with the narration for what turned out to be Yusuke's run dubbed in, and they often tease Final runs without showing the person/having a banner obscuring the identity of the competitor. There are definitely ways around it, and a lot of the more recent trailers have actually tried to do this, showing mostly audience reactions etc. One of the 41 fails was shown in the trailer but it was literally the person's hand slipping off the ledge. That said, despite the better approach, there have been some unintended leaks. Lots of which were during 39 because they forgot to crop out the replays from the screen when they revealed the photos of competitors on the start line, as well as Nagano's name being very obviously audible during one of the shock reactions before 41.

Oh yeah, that said they weren't even that bad compared to some of the others I was thinking of. In 39, they previewed the later Stage 1 runs when the rain started, including Yuuji at the start line, without realising that this also showed Kawaguchi on the big screen behind him dismounting the WW giving away he'd failed. I also remember a bunch of the start line photos spoiled results from the previous competitor because they didn't cut out the replay from the big screen. Nakashima's clear got spoiled in 41, same with Ryo in 39, etc. They also spoiled Matsuda's fail in 39 in the trailer which I was surprised by because they usually show relative unknowns to circumvent any tangibly impactful results being divulged. I'd say the absolute worst barring Nagano in 41 was probably Yusuke in 37. They showed him really grimacing to get up the wall which he NEVER does, which implied that something had gone pretty wrong during his run. Not to mention that they didn't give him much coverage between taping and airing, and he suddenly went MIA from social media during that period. Don't get me wrong, his fail was still incredibly shocking to see, but I did see it coming. Overall though I think Inui probably figures that most of the competitors who get spoiled won't be memorable enough for people to put two and two together between the time they watch the trailer and airing. 99% of viewers aren't like us who worked out that Takanayagi failed in 41 because he was the only blue shirt wearer bar Hioki, or slowing down the video to see the number of the competitor who failed, etc. lol. The Golden era was defo worse because they spoiled a lot of Stage 3 runs from competitors with easily identifiable outfits (e.g. Koji Yamada) right at the start of the broadcast, 1-2 hours before their runs, rather than the trailer several weeks before.
