I loved the rolling log as much as the next person. However disqualification for falling off the track I'm sure was controversial during it's time.
Hell in Sasuke 5 it happened to 6 people including Yamada who was lucky he survived.
I do wonder if it's 100% user error when it comes off the track

Most of the people who derailed it did so because they were off center which is why the yellow lines were place. That said, I do think the derailments were unfair and the problem should've been handled sooner than it was, which is why the log caps were enlarged. Ditto for the log halting as bigger competitors seemed to have this issue, though I also noticed this did happen more to people who couldn't stay flush with the log.

I think it is fair for most cases. There is maybe a couple time I could argue it is the log not being scaled properly according to the course, yes, but, as pointed above, it is usually on competitors to make sure they balance themselves properly while rolling the log. So, yeah, I say Rolling Maruta is a fair obstacle.
