Got it (and thank you for searching out all the footage)!
So in this case, we reckon the ladder is the second variation (the spider-climb-esque one) rather than the 'climb one side then the other' which came first.
Edit: was writing before TCM posted, never mind!

As part of my general lurking around the Sasuke Maniac forum, I've actually been following your blog posts for a long time, and I figured this was as good a chance as any to finally say thank you!
Your improvement and attitude are really inspiring, and as an animation student, I can really appreciate you balancing a film course with your running training!

There's never been a 'snow stops play' before in the list of inclement weather, has there? I only recall the rain in 8 and 32, and the heat in 15. It snowed DURING Kunoichi 2's final. Oof. Looking at the picture on Sasukepedia that cannot have been pleasant. (My lack of Kunoichi knowledge fails me again!) While strange weather makes for dramatic TV, here's hoping it clears up before the taping, given that everyone only gets a once-a-year shot at the course.

Go back and watch old footage of Ayako Miyake defeating this final It's not a new one. I had no idea it was a legacy obstacle! (I've only seen like 5-10 min of Kunoichi in total) Based on what I remembered I thought the old final was more of a horizontal balance thing so I just assumed it was a new set-up. Thanks!

I'll admit to having been not that interested in Kunoichi based on the few snippets of it I've seen in the past, but these obstacles look really exciting!
Do we have any idea how the Sayu Hashigo (Left and Right Ladder) in the Final Stage works? Is it literally just climbing ladders on alternating sides of the tower?
The Fishbone looks like it could be the early obstacle to beat, I'm assuming you step across the bottom poles whilst avoiding the top ones? Reminds me of the shields from Raven, where no-one could get the timing right.

I was listening to the Chicken Run soundtrack on YouTube.
(No, really. I'm an animation student. And British.)
Then, I saw comments talking about Shingo's theme and thought 'I know Japan has different copyright laws, but did an anime really nick this song?'
Curious, I ended up browsing YouTube, went 'who is this guy in the cap?' and found a bunch of clips from different tournaments of this obstacle course show. That led me to VenusHeadTrap's Sasuke 29 commentary, which in turn led me to Arsenette's blog.
Which turned Sasuke from a passing curiosity into a show in which I was deeply invested.
Shingo is still my favourite competitor.

I'm totally up to play again. Not sure whether killed with own weapon is more or less pathetic than poisons self... Must Do Better!
Morimoto didn't fare much better than Asa, so I may as well switch my teammate to Takeda.

I'd like to play again, please!
I'm tempted to pinch Shingo, but if he's wanted elsewhere, I'll go with Morimoto, and hope he does better than Asa!
EDIT: If Emily's going with Scottish Ninja, I'll totally team up with Shingo (sorry, totally shafting Morimoto!)

Oh wow... I'm a complete idiot! Of all the ways to go, accidentally poisoning yourself is pretty pathetic. Looks like District 10 was just bad with poisoned drinks. well, have you seen the Princess Bride? Unfortunately not. Its on my (admittedly massive) list of things to track down and watch. I have looked it up in the past, so I do remember there being a thing with poisoned drinks, but not very well.

Uhh, missed out on Shingo, so I'll say Asa.

I wished you guys got to see the tournament I saw. It was epic, unpredictable, a bit controversial and historic. What you saw on television pales so much in comparison I officially refuse to defend the horrendous editing. Yeah, I actually enjoyed this one a lot overall, but the sheer number of cut runs did make it feel very disjointed. Not to mention the complete stage 2 wipe. Apart from those(major) issues, this tournament was really exciting and unpredictable. In a slightly bizarre way, I almost enjoyed it more than 31, which would have been a lot more enjoyable for me if the kanzenseiha hadn't been advertised. I appreciate they needed the views, but it sucked all the tension out of an otherwise very enjoyable 3rd/4th stage. My fault for blundering into spoilers, I guess. Given this is only my second live tournament though, I imagine I'll change opinions a bit once I have more full programs to compare.

Asashi beer~ Take a drink. I'm gonna need one after this tournament... Also, loved the Nagano thing at the end. Yeah, that was beautiful. Nice way to end after the third stage ate everyone.

It does? Well I completely miscalculated that. Drew is on fire! Will he make it all the way?

We have about an hour left, right? I'd say Drew and Tomo are the only hopes for a deep stage 3.
Final is very unlikely, but I do want to see that salmon ladder in action.

Holy crap the all-stars got the avengers theme!
And I didn't get to hear the chickens are revolting... Oh well, at least it wasn't a Shingo like in 31.
Go Nagano! The chanting before his run was great.
