I'm fully aware this is probably a stupid question given that no one will have a concrete answer for this, but it's something that's been on my mind for a while.
Everyone attributes the last few failures to the rain that plagued the later stages of Stage 1, however the rain was actually at it's worst around #83-91. All of those runs you could see it was full on raining, yet we still got 4 clears within that period. Hence I've always wondered why the last 8-9 competitors seemed to struggle so badly despite the fact that the rain appeared to have at least temporarily stopped and (supposedly) the course was being dried down between each run. Example being that Ryo of all people managed to clear the wall when it was raining, while Kawaguchi and Yuuji didn't even seem to come close despite it no longer raining. Yusuke is an exception given that it started raining again before his run.
The only conclusion I can give is that they didn't bother drying down the platforms well enough such that the course remained incredibly slick and slippery despite the rain having stopped, which knowing TBS I wouldn't put it past them.

If there’s no rain,I sure that Darvish could cleared Stage 1 another time, same for Araki Naoyuki,Urushihara Yuji and Morimoto Yusuke. Yamada Katsumi probably will failed before Dragon Glider. If he concentrate and cleared Rolling Hill, he still will failed. I'm not sure Kawaguchi Tomohiro clear or not. We do know he failed Soritatsu Kabe several times. If there's no rain, Yamamoto Shingo might have a shot to clear Dragon Glider, but not so lucky as that. Also, Fujimitsu Kenji will probably going further if there's no rain. Base on this, He might failed at Dragon Glider, but if he clear it he probably will clear Stage 1. For Takeru, I'm a bit worry about his time. Even there's no rain, he still might failed there.

I think Darvish, Araki, Yuuji, Kawaguchi, and Yusuke probably would've all cleared, which would've taken us to 19 clears (already 5 more than 38 despite this being a renewal lol....), I wouldn't be surprised if we got another clear maybe from either ABC-Z or Takeru. Pretty much everyone else was a no, I mean Yamada's Quad Steps fail only served to speed up the inevitable let's be honest. My question was more that I don't get how someone like Ryo was able to clear the Tackle+Wall combo while it was full on raining despite him already having a bad rep with the obstacle in the dry, while the last three guys seemed to struggle with it so badly as though the obstacle was impossible, even though it hadn't been raining for I'll say an hour or so by that point? Maybe they just didn't dry the course down properly, idk.

Well, Matachi Ryo, Yamamoto Keitaro and Tada Tatsuya need to thanks for Iwamoto Hikaru, because when he start challenging, the rain start to become smaller for a while. That had caused that those few lucky competitors climbed to the top of the wall. That because they want to let Johnny's member to clear Stage 1 in rain, so they will ripped the water on the course before Johnny's competiting. PPS, I think Sato Jun can affordable for a wet Soritatsu Kabe if he didn't injured. Nagano Makoto will probably failed at the wall even he luckily cleared Dragon Glider.

I'm fairly sure it was still raining when Keitaro etc. ran; their pre-run photos when they were on the start line clearly showed that they were wet lol.

It was definitely raining on Ryo, Keitaro, and Tada. The fact all three of them cleared the wall still wows me to this day and my respect for all three of them went up. If you watch their runs on the official Sasuke YouTube channel you can see the rain dropping into the water pits fairly heavily. I've tried the Warped Wall before when it had just started raining and after and it felt borderline impossible. That all said there is perhaps some sort of traction molding on the Warped Wall in Sasuke nowadays which helps combat slickness. I think Matsuda even put the same material on his wall on his home course. I don't think they are running up straight up marine plywood or whatever wood type they use for the wall anymore. How much that affects water on the wall exactly I'm not sure, but we clearly saw Tomo, Yuuji, and Yusuke all slipping down the wall with no shot. (linking video to show those threes' attempts, but also because I just loved the music) But I have to say as far as I can tell it was definitely raining on Yusuke's run. You can kinda see it in that video alone. I'm pretty sure it was raining during Yamada's run as well, but perhaps not as hard. As for why #98-100 failed the wall and not #89-91, it's a great question I do not have a firm answer to. Maybe the wall was just so damp at that point the course producers couldn't compensate for it. It's true that when the rain just starts the wall is still not as hard as after it has been wet for a while.
I guess I'm kinda just less surprised the last three runners failed and more #89-91 didn't.

I guess I'm kinda just less surprised the last three runners failed and more #89-91 didn't. Yeah that was my guess as well, like the dampness had firmly set by that point which caused everything to become slippery. It was fairly obvious that the high 90s had a much tougher time across the entire course despite it no longer raining; like how Yamada and Darvish just slid off the Rolling Hill platform despite their landings not being Jamie Rahn level terrible, and obviously 98-100’s attempts at the wall being seemingly futile. Obviously Yusuke had the worst of both worlds, where it was already slick and then it started raining AGAIN lol. Yeah I was hella surprised at 89-91 given that all of them are pretty short Stage 3 specialists not really known for their lower body strength (especially Ryo lol). That said, Araki who wore 86 failed but given that his run got 86’d by the edit (terrible joke I know) idk if he was running in the rain or not. Kaito Streets I feel was the worst affected as it was legit pouring down during his run, not to mention it started raining right before he went lol. I do wonder how they’ll try and account for this in future tournaments. It’s not like Stage 3 where they can just tarp it over as Stage 1 is fairly out in the open. I suppose they could build a marquee over the wall only or something, idk. My only question is why they didn’t delay taping to the next day like they did in Sasuke 32 and 37, my only assumption is that they couldn’t for whatever reason. They might’ve already pushed the later Stage 1 runs to the next day, and Stages 2 and 3 were meant to run later that day, so they didn’t have that leeway to shift things around; that’s just my guess tho.

After watching their runs on the official channel, I think you can likely say #89-91 had more traction on their final steps on the wall judging from observation alone. You can still hear wet slipperiness, but it seems close to incomparable to how Yuuji and Yusuke were straight up sliding down the thing in defeat. It's possible #89-91 had more power, but I think they also just got luckier with the traction not being THAT horrendous.

It sucks, the rain made Tomohiro, Yuuji and Yusuke fail the Double Warped Wall, and Ryo and Tada almost failed it.
