Could be anyone. Could be any GC, All-Star, Shin Sedai, anyone that's ever competed. Personally, currently I like watching Yoshi run, cause he looks like he's not even trying, and I also have a soft spot in my heart for the Black Tigers. As for the past, it'd definitely be Kongu. Absolute beast, always tore the course a new one, had both speed and power, and would've been a champion if... that didn't happen in 24.
Let me know your thoughts.

Yuuji, simply because I enjoy watching people in their 40s kick some a**. In fact I honestly enjoy watching Yuuji's later runs more than his prime runs, not that I don't enjoy those, but his later runs are arguably more impressive.
As for past competitors, ah so many to choose from... I guess I'll go with Lee En-Chih. I always thought it was impressive how stamina just never really posed a problem for the guy. While most people were huffing and puffing, he was just coasting along. He may have not been the fastest guy, but his form was so smooth.

Maybe not very original but Kobayashi. Sadly there wasnt too many of his runs we were able to see but 11 and 14 are one of the best ever stage 3 runs, while also being only competitor alongside Nagano to beat CHK like its nothing.

Currently; Snow Man. Of all time, probs Hiromichi Sato.
Lol, seriously, I’d probably have to agree with Yoshiyuki as he has all the materials for exciting runs. He’s a genuine threat to clearing Stage 3 for one unlike Hioki who’s at best going to fail the Cliffhanger, and consistently puts down the fastest times with no effort whatsoever. That said I do like watching relative unknowns/rookies who make it to Stages 2 or 3 as it’s super interesting to see how far they can go that early in their careers. Hayate’s run in 39 was probably my favourite just because of how he defied expectations by coming second place. Anastase’ and Shinji’s first runs also massively stand out to me for those reasons.
Overall I’m not sure. I guess I enjoy watching competitors who are very 0 or 100 in terms of where they end up, like Ryo, because you know they could either go out super early or reach the Final Stage, which inherently makes their runs more exciting to watch imo.

Exactly, it gets boring with someone like Yusuke who will reach all the way unless it rains, or with Jun who genuinely I cant remember when was last time he failed to reach Cliffhanger. So when you have someone just come out of nowhere like Ryo, Yuuji or Shinji its very entertaining and also pretty much every time their next tournament after a deep run ends in disappointment (apart from Yuuji in 28 and 37).

Kobayashi Shinji for the past Either Yuuji or Yoshi for current competitors I was actually going to say Shinji but then realised he's only really been shown in full in four out of his ten runs, and two of those were Stage 1 fails. His Sasuke 11 run was insane though, I still get goosebumps from him clearing the Cliffhanger like it was nothing when even Nagano almost failed it. Same with his run in 14 where he pressed the Stage 1 buzzer with his foot, squatted the last wall on Stage 2, and obviously went the farthest on Stage 3.

For me,
Past:Nagano,Takeda, and Shingo mainly, because they make the first two stages look like a walk in the park.
Present:Yoshiyuki and Saikawa. Saikawa I think could go as far to the Cliffhanger if he doesn't slip up early in 40.
