It isn't that hard. Just apply good pressure with your feet and hold on tight. Your posture on it helps, as well as trying to have a bit of pace. Keep your arms bent. It is something that you just got to be confident on really. As for grip, there is enough for what you are doing on it, just like there was with the spider flip. Making sure your hands are coordinated is all you really need to worry about there. But Darvish knows that better than me.

And don't go with just socks ala Shingo against a warped wall

There isn't much grip on the board. It's probably because they can easily traverse the lumberjack so well with a type of shoe that has a tabi grip or something that isn't reptilian type leathered skin.
