Underappreciated and underrated to an extent imo is the Halfpipe Attack.

Underappreciated and underrated to an extent imo is the Halfpipe Attack. yea it was pretty deadly. Took out 3 of 4 champions (nagano was always on top of things there), shingo, wakky, daisuke miyazaki and drew drechsel's knee. and always gave kanno trouble.

Definitely my favourite obstacle ever. Easy, simple but still amazing

The only one I can think of that hasn't been said yet is the Pole Bride (or Pillar Path). That was an interesting little obstacle, if a bit too easy (though, it did take out Kane Kosugi, so it can't have been quite as easy as it looked). It might have worked better in a timed stage, but then you'd probably need to shorten it to account for it being a very slow obstacle.
I think it'd have worked really well in Kunoichi's Stage Three as well.

Definitely a good obstacle (and a favorite of mine), but it's not an underrated obstacle in terms of making an appearance in the series. It's been in 9 tournaments total (Sasuke 9-12, and 19-23 with the descending version) The first version is no doubt underrated to me at least when it comes to eliminating competitors though, especially with the fact that Daisuke Nakata never made it past this obstacle. Wouldn't call the descending version underrated in terms of being a tough obstacle, especially with how Levi Meeuwenberg treated it like round sphere monkey bars in Sasuke 23.

I just had a random thought about the Dome Steps, which I liked in 25 (the nice green colour helped). Asides from the no-hands rule, which was rather daft. One of my favourites starts to Stage 1.
Then again, 25 had quite a few underrated obstacles.

How about the Metal Spin?

The Rolling Escargot never really got much attention, it took out a lot of famed contestants when it first appeared and still took out a lot of people in it's next 2 tournaments. It surprised me how it was replaced in SASUKE 29 due to the damage it and the Spin Bridge caused in SASUKE 28.

Spin Bridge from 28. Your feet had to have perfect placement to pass that obstacle. Speed wasn't enough as the balls spun so easily. There was a also a slight chance to recover if you slipped on the last few balls as you could lean/dive forward.

Yes that one was nasty. I'm sure there have been worse cases that I've completely forgotten about. Anyway, I believe the Slider Drop is an underrated obstacle. It wasn't too difficult yet you couldn't overlook it or be careless. It was a fast obstacle which is nice for Stage 2. I loved it in 27, especially with that beautiful gold colour in the background. ditto right there.
metal spin doesn't get enough love either and it's really unique... love watching competitors make the grab... but the bungee goes down and the chain pops right out of their hands and they spin/fly into the water. whichever one is your favourite adjective.
also, i really like the step slider (although I only watched it in anw4). but screw the floating steps from the later anws. i hate those.

It surprised me how it was replaced in SASUKE 29 due to the damage it and the Spin Bridge caused in SASUKE 28. It was replaced because they wanted more people to get far into/clear the stage. Personally, I inexplicably love the Hedgehog and Lumberjack Climb, although I was fine seeing the latter go in 35. The new layout was still a breath of fresh air.
