So, as something to do on the off-seqson, why don't we rate Sasuke 33?
Vote in the poll above to give them the number you think they deserve out of 10. I'd be interested to see each person''s opinion and criteria so please comment as well if you feel like it.
I would give it a 5 overall. Not too much new stuff going on and both completely new obstacles were from the most recent Kunoichi. That loses them a point. Unlike last time, the editing was fair so no points lost there (even though I still think they need to show more of the women, like in 32). Decent competitor choices too.
The time-limit for Stage 1 wasn't tough enough and I just can't get around the idea of these over two minute-long stages so that brings us down to an 8. 128 seconds is awkward!
Stage 2 was better but I felt like a side-event to me rather than the main attraction. Since the RISING era the focus is pretty much about on Stages 1 and 3. Stage 2 isn't meant to be the most intimidating but it's also not a a halftime-show. I'd definitely recommend bringing back obstacles like Chain Reaction, Downhill Jump, Unstable Bridge and definitely the Metal Spin to bring the feel back, while removing the Backstream in the process!
Stage 3 lost the show two points due to the dumb Flying Bar alone. The new support system was terrible and messed-up Morimoto and and others. Shame, because I thought the jump between Flying Bar and Sidewinder was a really good thought and the rest of the stage is doing pretty well.
The runs were so unpredictable that it almost felt predictable which probably benefitted the tournament. The results certainly made this tournament interesting, we just need some more variety and possibly obstacle-testing and we should be alright.

Don't understand why sharing obstacles between shows loses point. There are a number of different obstacles Sasuke and Kunoichi has shared. Wasn't even the first time an obstacle of some sort first appeared for Kunoichi before Sasuke. Both versions took out a former Finalist from its respective show (and nearly took out the current Grand Champion). I'd say that confirms its difficulty.
I also think people are harping a little too much on the time limit. Two minute stages have been around for a decade. The time limit wasn't the problem, given every obstacle can take some time to get through. People figured out how to get through the heavier Tackle and clear the Wall in one shot (Hioki needed two and had a sub-10 second time as a result). I mentioned before, if the time got adjusted to 115 like some were saying, you'd cut the clear rate in more than half. Only Sato, Drew, Asa and Igarashi would have cleared (maybe Nagasaki, but don't know his time clear since we weren't told to my knowledge). Stage 2 actually did its job imo, it's meant to cut down the clear rate for Stage 3 and it did that. Salmon Ladder hasn't been that dangerous in years since the Swap version leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. Stage 1 should be an easier stage, and Stage 2 is the first test of your mettle. If you can't do the Salmon Ladder, you probably aren't gonna last in Stage 3 anyways.
I agree Stage 3 was a wash, and I'd drop the support wire but I still say the Flying Bar destruction wasn't due to bad design. The wire doesn't impede vision, everyone who failed to land on the notch missed because they were too busy looking at one side to pay attention to the other, in addition to not giving it enough of a push (Shunsuke -- who failed the same spot last year, Sato -- he cleared last year, don't know his excuse other than it seems like he's become the classic parkour athlete who doesn't have the upper body training Sasuke requires) or too much of a push one (Yusuke -- keep in mind that was his first try). Asa straight up hopped off the obstacle. The notches weren't slick and they're curved slightly more than ANW's but don't appear to look any different than when they were tried in 27. They've eliminated at least 2 people in all three Sasuke tournaments they were attempted in. They have virtually the same clear rate across ANW and Sasuke. If anything, I'd say the lighting was a literal washout because you could barely see. I wouldn't be surprised if the peripheral from the lights affected things. Then again you had someone like Drew who did them perfectly, with earbuds on nonetheless.
I'd give it a 7. It's not going to be one a "Best of" compilation anytime soon, but if we had a run that went past the UCCH (Drew rushed the timing, what's his excuse), it would be a better received tournament.

For me I think it's less about obstacle difficulty in losing the point, and more about creativity and thought. When the most original change in a tournament is taking out two resting platforms, that would make me bored already. I know where you're coming from (and this won't make my opinion any more popular), but I was certainly considering removing two points for that.
It's not necessarily that I'm not a fan of the time-limit for this stage(although I'm not, 120 seconds would've made much better finishes), but that I don't think the first stage timer should even have three digits on it for seconds - make the courses and limits shorter.
I don't think Stage 2 was harder. I bet that if we started with Stage 2 and had all 100 runners do that, that more than 11 would conquer it. People like Shingo, Yuuji and Wreathman would've cleared among others we've probably never heard of. Beside that, it felt like the "outcast stage" to me for some reason. The mix of obstacles just didn't seem quite right and everything (the Backstream literally) had a watered-down feeling to me. I can't really explain why.
Can't blame Drew for rushing though. He knew he still had two more obstacles to do with no rest so he had to take several risks and he just got mess up. I expect someone to get back to the Vertical Limit 3.0 next time.
I think part of my disappointment is that this is coming after the legendary (to me) tournament 32 so it got a high expectations rating.

I put down a 6. When the 3rd stage ends up being a bloodbath in 1 spot, the rest MUST step up. Stage 2 was ABYSMAL until Asa finally saved the day and he and the rest saved it. Stage 1 has ALWAYS been my favorite stage since we see everyone's overall skills. The usual weird fails are present (SHINGO I'M LOOKING AT YOU!) as well as unexpected fails (Yuuji/Anastase/Shinya/Tomohiro) and HEARTWRENCHING fails (Kenji Darvish). All in all SASUKE 33 was a fun ride in the first stage. Also Takeda clearing stage one helped. Spoilered because runs are mentioned and not everyone has seen it.

Had to think of other tournaments to rate this one. Keep in mind I'm mostly a post-Shin Sasuke fan, and only saw all of the old tournaments on G4 back in the day. I thought 26 was about as low as Sasuke could get. I still view 23 as my favorite tournament. I thought 19, 20, 22, 27 were meh. I actually view Sasuke Rising, or 28-32 actually, as pretty good, but I would also rate the likes of 18, 21, 24, and 25 as higher. 33 I would put above all the other "Rising" (I know they ditched this name) though. Just how I feel. So for structure purposes: 23 > 18, 21, 24, 25 > 33 > Rest of Rising > 19, 20, 22, 27 > 26. There are a lot of pre Nagano's victory tournaments I liked, mostly the later teens. But I know the tournaments I listed like the back of my hand. Forgot the aactual rating: Eight, since I would put 23 as a ten and 26 as six (yeah, not actually a zero, I'm sure Sasuke could be much worse )

I really didn't like seeing some of the best FF'ed (I could care less about Ryo honestly). However there were more runs shown this time and I liked that. There's not really much worth mentioning that I didn't like about this tournament. 8/10 for me.
The best moment though was Takeda's clear and him and Nagano's hug after the interview.

I dreaded it. I've never felt as let down watching the end of a competition than I did during ssk 33. 19 was actually kind of interesting seeing that many fail the first stage and not seeing past the Salmon Ladder. But in 2017? I don't want this flying bar BS. 3/10

Spoiler warning, but given that it says spoilers in the title, you probably already know that.
The only thing I didn't really like was the flying bar thing. Besides that, I liked Stage 1 (Fishbone and Double Pendulum are awesome obstacles), Takeda's clear was nice to see, Stage 2 was decent, I like the new first obstacle, decent time waster. Drew going the furthest again was cool. Stage 3 is where the problem was, the flying bar thing really sucked. I would have loved to see guys like Yuskue take on the UCCH/VLK/PS combo. Also, it was a little short for me. 6/10, could have been higher if the flying bar thing didn't happen, and it was a little higher.
