I'm sorry guys, but I have no other choice but to clear this out of my head. It's been outraging me for several days now...
It looks like once again the production team have given all the wildcards to women. This is, in my opinion, absolutely unfair, harsh and sexist. They did this last year, and they've done it again. Some people say that wildcards are given to just women to make the female viewers happy and/or to level the playing field. They are WRONG. Some of, if not most, of these wildcard athletes didn't even make it to the City Finals which I think is a stupid idea and it's very unfair on those who missed out on a ticket to Vegas. Even worse Jeri D'Aurelio, a wildcard athlete was not shown AT ALL on the show. Okay Natalie Duran deserves one because she made it to the City Finals but the rest do NOT. What about Reko Rivera? David Campbell? Lucas Gomes? Jesse La Flair? they did 50x better than the other Wildcards.
The golden rule of American Ninja Warrior is, and always has been: If you don't beat the course or make the top 15, you don't go through, no exceptions. If the producers are gonna keep giving out wildcards to females alone in future seasons they might as well call them WildGirls instead. They should only award wildcards to those who made it to the City Finals but barely missed out on the top 15...or a better solution would be DON'T AWARD THEM AT ALL!
What are your views on this? Do you think it's fair to give wildcards to just female contestants? Or do you think they should be abolished forever? Have your say below, but please be polite and honest and respect other people's views.
Rant over.

Honestly I don't like the idea of wildcards at all. American ninja warrior is basically a six stage course. It you don't qualify for Vegas you shouldn't go. The only reason for wildcards at all is a safety if the most popular people fail.
EDIT: However, I don't really care what the gender of the people are. That doesn't really matter.

This wildcard hate is hilarious.
In Sasuke, 60/100 are pretty much doomed to fail wildcards, brought in to represent different demographics and boost viewership. I don't see anyone complaining about, for example, the unknowns that went to Sasuke 11 without passing the monkey bar trials, so why are we complaining about 10/100 spots here?

I don't get why people hate wildcards, do they realize Sasuke is majority wildcards? And has been since the start

I think calling them WildGirls would be a smart move on their part, might bring up viewership in the male demographic.

(I feel like this is the millionth time I've said this, but...) It's a TV show, not a sport. It's unfair. Simple as that. You can disagree, but it's NBC's decision to make. You don't see random people getting automatic-invites to the NNL finals, because it's a sport (or, at least, trying to be). That being said, yes, I do think it's pretty ridiculous how they choose and I wish they gave them to people that had legitimate chances at clearing all 4 stages (and I wish Sasuke did too). Or get rid of them entirely. Or treat them as actual wildcards (i.e the way "wildcards" are used in sports). Or like a fan vote-in, or something. I don't know. The golden rule of American Ninja Warrior is, and always has been: If you don't beat the course, you don't go through, no exceptions. Ummm... what? When has this ever been the case? Perhaps what you're trying to say is "If you beat the course, you go through.", or something like that (which is a lot different than what you said)?

If you don't beat the course, you don't go through, no exceptions. What I meant was if you're in the top 15 in general...as well as beating the course. Isaac Caldiero wasn't a wildcard so he won legit even though he failed the Kudari Body Prop in the City Finals.

- Any woman who didn't get a wildcard: they weren't good enough - Any man who didn't get a wildcard: the show is sexist
- The only winner of the million dollars failed obstacle 9 of his city finals course. - Entire regions have made it to Vegas solely on furthest the fastest because no one cleared the city finals. - Furthest the fastest is a better alternate than people beating a course but missing out because they didn't clear quick enough, which happened before 'Win and In'.
And modifying your quote to "or make the top 15" only makes your argument weaker. Because you're advocating for people to get wildcards *you* like. Who didn't make the top 15. So you're basically saying 'if the people I like don't get wildcards, it might not even exist'. Which is fine, but be consistent, preferably without sexism claims that aren't there (and getting a little sexist there yourself). Since, again, you deny adding women to the wildcards helps with viewer demographics or diversity.

On the real tho, I would be shocked if NBC does this again next year. I've seen nothing but backlash on all of their social media accounts.

Wildcards are a privilege, not a right What NBC does with them is their business.

Not every wildcard was a female. As I explained in chat during the la finals one male was a wildcard

Wildcards are a privilege, not a right What NBC does with them is their business. Exactly. NBC historically used this to include women but not exclusively. Besides that is the pure definition of a wildcard - executive privilege. Trying to compare it to Sasuke at this juncture makes no sense since this has been dealt with differently with ANW from the beginning when ANW4 came around. Sasuke is almost all exclusively wildcards (All-Stars being the highest example of that) while ANW is almost exclusively qualifiers. Who they chose to fill out the ranks is their own business. This isn't a sports competition anyway - it's a TV show.

Before obstacle replica training and qualifiers existed in SASUKE, everyone was a wildcard because there was NO WAY of knowing who would do well. The show literally cobbled together 6 no-names who were all invited as "wildcards" at some point or another and lo and behold we were given the Sasuke All-Stars. AKA, the standard by which most of us hold all other competitors to.
Also, from a TV ratings perspective, it would be a huge mistake to have Vegas just be a sausage fest. You don't get a wildcard into the olympics if you mess up in the trials. But you do get direct entry if you are representing a heavily underrepresented country. Women are in the vast minority in ANW, especially the Vegas finals which I'm sure a lot of people are tuning in to watch who didn't bother to watch the qualifiers. So they deserve some representation. It's not taking away any of the 15 spots promised to each region.

I receive a wildcard twice once in 2012 and once in 2013. When I was called for a wildcard I thought it was a honor. Several people did not like the idea of having wildcards and they posted things like no one should get a wildcard they should earn it. Then again in 2013 the table turned and people were begging to get a wildcard spot. Funny how the tables turned back then and now.
