So I was looking at Instagram when this popped up http://instagram.com/p/BILEmuVjgDg And Kacy said that they did the same thing to her. Which makes me wonder why NBC is doing this. They're popular people trying to simply promote the show right? So why would NBC think it's cool to remove their stuff, other than they want to be "tough guys" and have copyright issues

Not sure if this is related to this at all, but I noticed that NBC removed their videos of Elet Hall Stage 1 and 2, as well as the Weatherman Stage 2 in Season 6, don't know if any other runs got taken down.

This is perfectly normal. NBC owns those videos and if they can't monetize them on someone's channel then they remove it. Every company does this.

But they sure can monetize the TV deals, i.e. ads/sponsors/etc., which viewer ratings control, which increase with re-posts like this. But I guess that's just not worth it? I don't understand show business...

Considering also that sponsors, etc. pay for certain deals to be at certain times (which is why you never have videos up in perpetuity - especially full episodes). That doesn't mean I like it - it's just normal so I don't freak out as much. That's also why I haven't put many TBS stuff on my YT either. I know better.

I'm not arguing it is the norm, but I guess I just don't see why NBC wouldn't benefit. I mean, it's free advertising, plain and simple. Plus, what is stopping POM from saying "Hey NBC, we'll pay you X dollars more than what we normally pay you for every time the 'POM run of the night' is re-broadcasted'"? Seems like this would be in everyone's best interest -- POM gets their product placement, NBC effectively gets paid to promote their own show, and Drew Dreschel becomes more popular. Everybody wins. I don't get it. EDIT: I guess this reminds me of the music industry -- artists basically put out their music for free (either willingly or not), in hopes of ultimately promoting live shows, collaborations with other artists, and all the monetizing that comes with just being more popular. Then again, I as a TV station wouldn't be idolizing the music industry these days..

I don't get it. Playing devils advocate only because I know how this system works having worked for them. It's not "free". NBC paid many people to get that footage made. Sponsorship deals also have an expiration date. In addition it splits the demographic. Remember how many times NBC said "x video got these million views?" They do it when it's in ONE place. Split between several doesn't help them since they can't use that as promotion for the following year. They also monetize the videos on their site but can't on someone else's. As much as they like to think they are - each ANW (and Sasuke) competitor doesn't own the video. They signed off that right when they signed the NDA. NBC has the right to chose how they do it because they don't see the value in splitting revenue in places that they can't control. That's why they actively go after people who rebroadcast their stuff however minor. And trust me we totally agree it's beyond stupid but when you look at it from a financial aspect, it makes sense to keep everything under one roof instead of having others steal property. NBC owns that for their own purposes. Competitors don't have it in their contracts to be able to use that as a demo reel.

To anyone who says "but it's free publicity" needs to realize these are the same videos NBC puts up on their own ANW channel for the most part considering we're mentioning the notable competitors
