Borrowing heavily from an ancient thread.. I figured I should bring this up since we have a lot of new people here! So if you said yes to this question.. here's what you need to know before you watch. I figured I should rewrite this with the hopes others would include their own experience. First of all.. This.. is not.. American.. Television. What you may be used to in your own home country (US or otherwise).. this is very different than what you are used to. Here's a few examples. - Cutting mid-run into commercials: TBS LOVES to cut in the middle of runs. So you get something like "oh he's about to jump".. (Insert beer commercial...).. Then they are back from commercial and immediately right where they left off. On rare occasions the person is back on the start line. Usually though it's literally right where they left off before the commercial.
- Frequency of commercials: Sasuke 28 is the only recent tournament that that started at 6:30 local time. BE PREPARED FOR A LOT OF COMMERCIALS IN THAT HALF HOUR. Once they get to 7PM local time they usually don't get a lot of commercials in that hour. As the night progresses you will get more and more commercials. Last hour I assure you.. you will be screaming at the amount of commercials. So be prepared!
- There will be a news break: Usually around the middle of the 2nd stage (on average) we get a 5-10 minute news break. Don't automatically think the broadcast is over and freak out (or worse, turn it off). Just hang in there.. it will be over before you know it and they resume right where they left off.
- They don't finish at exactly top or bottom of the hour: Here in the USA we are used to (for the most part) having shows finish at exactly :00 or :30 however Japan doesn't do that. Even the main broadcast you will be finishing at 22:54 (local time). I know this trips up a lot of people when they first watch Sasuke. We usually stay watching until the next broadcast starts (or if you see the end credits). I always stay until the next broadcast starts. It's safer that way. LOL
- Expect a lot of fast forwarding of favorites: Sadly this is becoming a disturbing trend. You will see a lot of the celebs and of Nagano and everyone else shown will be pretty much gravy. Expect people to be fast forwarded or even cut if it doesn't fit the narrative. ESPECIALLY if there are a lot of clears. This has been the case the past 3 tournaments. I don't like it to be frank. However be warned this may happen.
Hopefully this will give you a heads up. Personally I love watching it even if I don't know all that they are saying. The commercials during the broadcast usually are just as fun as watching the tournament itself and adds to the experience. The sheer randomness of the commercials (and even their placement) adds to the color of the experience. For those who want a glimpse of what to expect on Sunday, I strongly recommend watching Sasuke Navi. That's a half hour preview of the show that airs on Saturday. Enjoy the broadcast!
For the record my "first" live was Sasuke 20 (and blog started with this btw). I can't believe how much time flies.. 8 years already.. gaaaaaaah. How many new people? I'm always thrilled to hear people watching this for the first time. Do share! I'd love to hear it! ♥

This year is the first year where I'm properly debating whether to watch live because I appreciate the fact my body is willing to go asleep earlier than midnight lately lol.
That said, being a mod makes it a bit of an obligation plus I have a streak going since 23 of watching live so that's 9 tournaments and 7 years myself. It's a game time decision at this point and I'll probably show. Nothing like live.

Missed 24, 25, and 27 all due to horrible schedule confliction. Saw 26 live, 28 I managed to see while on vacation (luckily), and 29-31 I got to enjoy in the comfort of my own home. 32 should go down the same!

I've been on SMF since soon after 23's airing, but my first live broadcast was 26. Since then, I've either watched all of them live (27, 29, and 31) or watched them taped/spoiler-free very soon afterwards (28 and 30). Provided something unexpected doesn't come up between now and then, SASUKE 32 will be my fifth live broadcast. Also, the commercials are generally much more entertaining than American ones, so it's not like you'll lose your attention while waiting for SASUKE to return from break. I honestly think it's better to watch tournaments for the first time with the commercials intact, as it makes it seem more like the live broadcast and gives me a few extra laughs.

This will be my first live broadcast, and I am willing to wake up at 5:30am to watch it. For me, waking up at that time is nothing, I've woken up at 4am to watch Junior hockey. I'll enjoy it to the best of my ability. Hopefully I can actually get sleep before the broadcast

Been here a while, first one live was 28, and a very boring tournament to start off with tbh. Really looking forward to 32 though!

First one was 31, but only watched it live from stage 3 onward. I'm in MST/GMT -07:00 and I appreciate a good night's sleep, so I may sleep extra early and get up for stage 2 and onwards. Getting excited for it!

First live one for me was 26. Brutal and fun tournament. I missed the second half of 27 because I had to go to school and 28 because my computer was being crappy and I couldn't get the stream to work. But since then I haven't missed one. Looking forward to this!

I was going to watch 21 but the computer I had then was too s*** to use keyhole (yeah...)

This is semi-related (and will probably be further highlighted later on), but it's important to mention that there are certain rules associated with viewing the live broadcast if you're in the chat at the time. Most importantly, don't immediately type what has just happened during the show, as some people might have a slight delay in the stream from where they are viewing it. Thus, we recommend that if you're in the chat at the time to double-check occasionally with everyone what point in the show they're at as a means of common courtesy in not spoiling things for them.

Yeah, I basically participate in the chat during the commercials and between the runs, but I usually stay away during the runs themselves due to latency.

Discovered the show when I stumbled across 28 on youtube. Saw 29 in Japan (whoo!). Watched 30 & 31 live on SMF.
Most memorable ad ever has to be the ad for Elevator Brakes in Sasuke 28. It just blew my mind as a viewer seeing that ad and wondering who would buy new Elevator brakes after seeing them on TV.
