Not to mention there are specific obstacles that can ACTUALLY make you fail by the flip of a hydraulic-switch! That obstacle where they run along the ledge (at around top speed) and then the wall comes out of nowhere and clothes-lines them into the mud. so classic! ANW takes itself too seriously. Wipeout is just a joke. Sasuke is like the happy medium (to me!) It is super funny to watch people get owned onto crash mats!!!! I think that's why I still love Takeshi's Castle to this day. I love the Thailand one that they started this year. I can watch that without knowing a single word. I just don't like "awarding" fails. Just bothers me. At least even in Takeshi's castle you don't get money unless you win. And it's funny as all hell to see the fails. LOL

John Henson has said on Twitter the show is cancelled, but the executive producer had told me before the show has been put on "extended hiatus", whether that has changed I don't know. My guess is the worse abc's shows do this summer, the better chance Wipeout will return, either as classic or Extreme.
From the sounds of it, Extreme would just be Wipeout with all super-difficult obstacles that are still passable (i.e no hydraulic switch flipping shenanigans), but I'm not sure of all the details myself.

A quick update wipeout has been quietly cancelled and most likely wipeout extreme with it.
Too bad too I was curious of what the new format of the show would of looked like.

Is there an article or anything announcing that officially? It's rather old news, I assume no one looked into it last time thinking it was just in regards to Wipeout Extreme but not the "original" show as well. The story about wipeout not being renewed and quietly canceled backs up as there are no traces of it under ABC's programming section of their website

American Ninja Warrior has destroyed Wipeout for good since then. Besides, barely anyone likes to watch Wipeout because of the increasing popularity of ANW.

While that is for the best, even if not for the mainstream exposure of ANW, Wipeout still probably would have died out, it kept getting more repetitive and they kept switching around when it came on so no one could keep track of when it was on, it would have killed itself regardless
