I don't know jack about the TV industry and I know even less about the Japanese TV industry, but could TBS have at least sent several of their news anchors and variety show hosts to have competed? I don't know if there are any TBS personalities who are contractually bound to TBS rather than an outside talent agency? TBS is the NBC of Japan though.. they are last in the ratings. Adding TBS talent wouldn't exactly help. They need people that are relevant with Japanese pop culture as a whole. They need to DRAW people TO Sasuke from outside sources. Working within won't help.

Announcers are generally connected to their channel. But they are the only ones directly connected. Variety show hosts are almost always entertainers (usually male with female announcers from the network as their co-hosts) and everything goes through their talent agency. And only a few entertainers (usually comedians) earn their way to variety show hosting. They are usually veterans and they all probably do multiple shows, which would also make something like SASUKE hard to fit into their schedules. The same actually goes for the announcers. Vets are usually juggling multiple jobs and are often on the move. Plus the shows, while airing on TBS are produced by different companies.
What you're basically asking is for SASUKE to be promoted on different shows but that's up to TBS. All the networks do it to some extent. There was a short bit centered on the celebrities who participated in SASUKE 29 on the TBS Saturday mid-morning show and generally the first promos for the show air on one of the weekday morning shows.

Didn't they sorta do that during the Banzuke days? Or was it just TBS producing a lot of little specials?

I don't know if there are any TBS personalities who are contractually bound to TBS rather than an outside talent agency? Thing is though they have been doing that, the reporters aren't big ratings grabbers, especially when they stand no chance (Like Ito Ryusuke in 24 on the JS or the two reporters in 26 going out on the Step Slider). Closest to a big star Sasuke has gotten recently was NAOTO from EXILE in 26, which also ended up being the hardest stage 1 since 19 at that point so pretty much everyone got slaughtered, had he cleared ratings might have been better... and he probably isn't coming back since being on Sasuke was just a tie-in gimmick on a challenge wheel on an EXILE TBS show... honestly the only shot Sasuke has at this point is tons of celebs on an easy course so the big names (as in to the average viewer, while big to hardcore fans people like Yuuji and Nagano technically aren't "big names") clear... As much as many hate to hear this, I think ANW is going to end up taking over, while it's not doing amazingly ratings wise here either, it does have a much bigger base trying to support it, and in a way NBC is saving money by not having to book celebs to run just to keep it alive, only celebs (sports stars mainly, and some show sports like the globetrotters or the pro wrestler who ran in baltimore) are volunteering to run, not to mention it's not just funded by a station, but ones owned by a cable provider, tbh I don't know the financial comparison between TBS vs Comcast but seems equivalently ANW is winning, correct me if I'm wrong

That's the one thing that's always so weird about both sides of the TV industry for here and in Japan. While they do have SOME similarities for certain shows, their way of doing things is almost like a night and day difference. While it's cool to see some entertainers taking a shot in Japan, unless you're like REALLY into a lot of them (wishing for maybe some voice actors and anime directors taking a shot at it for fun X3), it's going to be at times a "meh" experience.
Here in the U.S. though, ANYONE can come and try out for it, so it's not just entertainers, we've seen TONS of average people (those that work regular 9-5 jobs and such) and some entertainers (the one Harlem Globetrotter making it to the main Midoriyama course) going for it and showing that they're willing to show what they've got along others who impress even them. With this kind of difference, what we're wanting to see is more everyday people on the most part trying to have their "Cinderella" story of going from the bottom to top.
In Japan, they're REALLY odd on what's a hit and what's not a hit. I hope to see SASUKE run a bit longer, but at the rate it's going, I'm also being a bit skeptic.

"Meh" experience for who? You?
"In Japan, they're REALLY odd on what's a hit and what's not a hit."
Or perhaps Japan has a DIFFERENT idea about what they like from people NOT from Japan.

Like anyone, it's going to vary for person to person. A lot of them I'm definitely cool with, but like I said, you've got some that's going to have their likes and dislikes. Even with the stuff we like, different games, anime, etc., it just varies and for a lot of people, it's not as big as it used to be.

I believe the issue that Ube is referring to is that you don't have an inkling of the television viewership as you don't live and breathe in that country. He's been there for quite a number of years and has studied the trends and what rates outside of just when Sasuke hits. Comparing what you think will work in Japan using the American television experience pair of glasses is not a valid way of analyzing the situation.
