So if you said yes to this question.. here's what you need to know before you watch. I had a thread on this every tourney but I can't seem to find it so I figured I should rewrite this with the hopes others would include their own experience. First of all.. This.. is not.. American.. Television. What you may be used to in your own home country (US or otherwise).. this is very different than what you are used to. Here's a few examples. - Cutting mid-run into commercials: TBS LOVES to cut in the middle of runs. So you get
something like "oh he's about to jump".. (Insert beer commercial...).. Then they are back from commercial and immediately right where they left off. On rare occasions the person is back on the start line. Usually though it's literally right where they left off before the commercial. - Frequency of commercials: - With the exception of Sasuke 28 (that started at 6:30 local time) they
usually don't get a lot of commercials in the first hour. As the night progresses you will get more and more commercials. Last hour I assure you.. you will be screaming at the amount of commercials. - There will be a news break: Usually around the middle of the 2nd stage (on average) we get a 5-10 minute news break. Just hang in there.. it will be over before you know it and they resume right where they left off.
- They don't finish at exactly top or bottom of the hour: Here in the USA we are used to (for the most part) having shows finish at exactly :00 or :30 however Japan doesn't do that. Even the main broadcast you will be finishing at 21:49. I know this trips up a lot of people when they first watch Sasuke.
Hopefully this will give you a heads up. Personally I love watching it even if I don't know all that they are saying. The commercials during the broadcast usually are just as fun as watching the tournament itself and adds to the experience. For those who want a glimpse of what to expect on Thursday, I strongly recommend watching Sasuke Navi on Sunday morning. That's a half hour preview of the show. Enjoy the broadcast!

It sure will be! Thanks for the info. Can't wait for it ! I wish I could understand what they were saying, but it's enough to know I can watch Sasuke once again.

You're welcome I've been watching since Sasuke 20 and the live viewing was ... sooo different than what I was used to watching the Ninja Warrior edit. One thing I've noticed though about the "not knowing what they are saying" is that the rest of the action and the pace of the show really helps with that regard. I notice that people who watch it for the first time don't realize they can't understand the voices about an hour into the broadcast. Meaning that they get used to it. The more you watch over time (especially older TBS broadcasts) you will get a hang of what it is they are saying. LOL my watching a lot of anime have gotten me used to certain words

In a way it will be my first one but I have watched 3 previous broadcasts. Sasuke 28 was spoiled by the celeb room. Adverts don't really bother me

This is gonna be my 3rd yay.
Also for people that are watching live for the 1st time, Japanese commercials are a lot more entertaining because they are weirder. You rarely see the same commercial twice.

This will be my seventh consecutive live tournament as well. I highly suggest seeing the Navi as a small example of what to expect. Though be forewarned, if you see the Navi, the wait for the actual tournament will become even more unbearable, since you have most of the week to torture you.

How long do the commercials last? Would it be like only one if it cuts during someones run or would it be a series of commercials?

Commercials run like normal around here so about 2 minutes? (4 back to back 30 second spots) On average I mean.

I watched 26 and 27 live, and 28 I watched a copy of the following day without knowing the results beforehand (I fell asleep literally 10 minutes before the live stream started). Therefore, 29 will technically only be my third live broadcast.

You rarely see the same commercial twice. Untrue. Depending on the channel and the time, you may end up seeing the same commercial back to back.
