Why are people like the waiter in 22 and mail man in 24 invited who have no chance of clearing many obstacles but stronger athletes have to go through the Trials? It doesnt seem fair.

I suppose it's because we don't want all 100 to be pro athletes, they like some of the people who compete to have obscure jobs, everyday people, so that we can compare the average men to the greats, like the all-stars.

I know but they didn't know how he was going to be dressed... he was chosen before they saw that.

Oh okay. I was thinking the opposite was true, but I cannot cite a source. For some reason, I was thinking that he had said that he sent in pictures of himself in costume in "poses considered funny in Japanese culture", to paraphrase.
I may just be mistaken.

At least from what I was led to believe they chose according to occupation. For example they want X amount of Teachers, cops, military, students, etc. So they go down their list and categorize the entrants according to occupation and see how many they have in that category. In Sasuke 21 they had 5 joke competitor slots and since G4 was sending Olivia and Kevin.. they chopped off Mr. Octopus and the Famous Gut of Japan to make up the 5 slots. In 21 they had the teacher Lance Terpend that was in 18 and 19 but when he couldn't make it they added another teacher Brian Phillip Harlow replace him. So it is more likely that they added Bengoshi because he was either a) a lawyer and they didn't have many lawyers in that tourney to pick from or b) chose him instead since he had a more convincing overall application.

Uhm. Didn't know about the jobs thing;but yeah, I imagined something like that. The "not serious people" are invited to be funny, not necessarily to do well. The "serious" people are invited to do well, and they want to be sure they are really that good.

There are always no more than 5 "joke" competitors that doesn't include the celebrity/comedians that are there for ratings purposes.

In Sasuke 21 they had 5 joke competitor slots and since G4 was sending Olivia and Kevin.. they chopped off Mr. Octopus and the Famous Gut of Japan to make up the 5 slots. If there were 5 joke competitor slots and aoki, hang glider, kevin and olivia were there that makes 4, so surely the octupus and koriki just didnt want to turn up, and wouldn't kevin and olivia be in the American category rather then the joke category

Personally I like the variety having different types of people. It's different than a regular competition or even an Olympic Competition. It is after all a gameshow. Through this show how else did you get blue collar guys pwning things on a regular basis Quite frankly most people don't know how well they will do until they get there. Heck Olympic athletes have failed to even get to the final and they train 24/7!
