I start to have 2013-2016 reminiscences when the middle of the year was the SASUKE time, but now it's the end of year instead

I don't know why they film so late in the year. Isn't warmer weather objectively better for an outdoor athletic event?
I would think early fall (September) or late spring (May) would be ideal.

Considering in the past, they said that the hole digging begins 2 1/2 weeks before the tournament, I figured it would be soon. I didn't exactly think they'd announce it next day tho lol

Not to mention that it's rained in all of the past four tournaments, which was when they started taping tournaments in October-November. Coincidence? I think not. Cold-ish weather is actually the best weather for Sasuke. Too hot and it affects both your stamina and your hands sweat a lot which really makes the upper body stuff harder (anything above like 20C can have an effect like this, I'm not just talking about Sasuke 15). Too cold and your hands start to go numb and lose feeling. October-November would hypothetically be ideal temperature wise, but it doesn't matter when it rains because everything gets screwed regardless. What I've never understood is why, for both 40 and now 41, Inui opened up the applications in April, when from the get go he planned on airing the tournament at the end of the year. At least for 40, it really gave me the false idea that we were going to have a tournament sooner in the year.

If this is the SASUKE World Cup, then what would the "SASUKE Olympics" be?

I think one of the reasons is because they film it closer towards the end of the year, and that they release it as a New Year's Special as another way of people tuning into their show and boosting their ratings (just like why they have a lot of celebrities competing in the show). Still, I feel as if they could still achieve that while filming more earlier in the year with weather that's more practical (as you said to begin with), and then wait till the end of the year to release it—though I would prefer if they released it earlier than usual anyway if they were going to tape it right then.

And adding to what I just replied to Ninja Relaxer, about when you said Inui even opened applications as early as April, but then decided to air the tournament months and months down the line; that just tells you if they really wanted to, they could tape earlier for weather that's more suitable and then post the tournament months later as a New Year's Special. And by more suitable, I feel that mid/late-spring could be some good candidates—similar to what Ninja Relaxer was suggesting. Definitely agree about not taping it during heat waves, typhoons, or blizzards though lmao.

Historically numbers are revealed right after the tape date as competitors have no idea what number they get until the day, so to reveal them before would kind of go against that. Recently though we've had to wait for weeks from the day of taping until numbers are revealed. 38 and 39 this was because they filmed privately/in secret due to COVID so didn't want to give away the exact day they were filming, but for some reason there was also a delay for 40 as well. I'd honestly be surprised if we get numbers before mid-to-late November.

Hm, interesting, didn't think about that. I knew competitors got the numbers on the tape dates thanks to watching the BTS for 40, and I thought Inui could just put them up on the site since it's likely he knows who's getting what ahead of time, but it did not occur to me that competitors can, well, look at said site haha.
