What happened with ANC2 was that they came up with 6 finalist and paid for them to go to the competition they created. In Japan they make you pay for your way to the competition. That said they got 2000 entries and had to chose 60 - all paid their way.

yeah that's tough, but as sasuke gained more fans I gaurantee people would make their way there to compete. depending on your success in the course you have your 15 minutes of fame. definately though if i trained my butt off for a year to attempt the course I would make the trip any way i could. could be a way to find serious competitors. obviously not everyone could make the trip but in essence it is there loss. if you thought you had a shot most people can come up with 600 bucks through course of a year to hopefully compete. people come from all over for the idol auditions and what have you.
If you build it.......they will come. hehehe

The other problem is that G4 has done nothing to instill confidence that IF you end up going to said course you will get into Sasuke. In Japan you know at the very least there are 5 spots (sometimes more - last year top 8 went... this year only 7 survived and they all went). In G4 it's a toss up as to who's going and who they are going to fill with Levi + AOTS host + whoever else.

well obviously G4 is our main pipeline right now. do we know of anyone that actually applied through monster9 and got invited to their qaulifier....or exactly how does that work? It seems like they have a couple thousand submissions and then they hold a qaulifier there as well, correct? Does that mean potentially we could bypass G4 and directly submit to monster9? or is that for japanese residents only?

Wonderful story there. Just curious how you know the pipeline is for sure closed because of G4? I know it makes sense from G4's perspective to basically have the monopoly of american competitors. Probablly some deal that has been worked out with Monster9. Is that just speculation though or is there something set in stone?

No it's for sure. People use to be able to apply or at least get information about applying via EMail, now those that try are simply told sorry, you have to go through G4, that is new as of the 2 tournaments.

Yep directly from Monster 9 themselves. Though I will tell you this.. I STILL plan to put pressure on it and when they announce it again I will post the address. For people who are older than the G4 demographic (like Michael) and younger than 21 you have no chance to get through in the G4 scheme. The worse that happens is that they say no.. right? So I'll continue to post what I can when I can when I find it.

Hmmm that's a shame. Definately from the money G4 has paid to air the show and what have you. Have we started pressuring G4 to really try to open up the process? Age, and all that shouldn't mean anything if the competitor truly has a chance. Again, I'm new to the sport myself so learning. Where can i find G4's "criteria"? Seems right now our options are to press G4 right now. Monster9 is probablly making a nice little bit of change from them so I can't blame them for referring people to G4, though makes it pretty unfair for us. Petition G4 possibly?

Don't see a petition doing much good. G4 has already proven on many occasions it's not going to listen to us on anything, plus its in their interest to get people 21-30 that fits the criteria of the people that watch the channel will want to see. Is it fair? No probably not, but unfortunately its their show and they have to pay the bills. NW does not get good ratings on G4, they are trying to boost them in various ways. As for M9's shutdown of applications, I think they would want it that way anyway, G4 asking them to or what not I would think just expidited the process.

G4 is one of those channels i didn't really even know existed til recently. Scanning through program guide and saw the E3 coverage. Then with the ninja warrior marathon this weekend I learned of it. So, they got me with their new strategy, or what have ya. Guess need more word of mouth, though seems evident is that more and more of us North americans are learning and becoming interested in the sport. So enough of us voice our concerns hell maybe something would happen.

What about that Casey guy who was in the Sasuke Trails? is that because he lived in Japan?
I have a friend who lives in Japan who wanted to take part in the trials.
Would he be able to? I mean, he's american but currently a Japan resident.

To my knowledge Casey was from Hawaii and the other guy (the football dude) flew in from California. Both were fluent in Japanese. The other American guy was the son of a famous talento in Japan (Ube will correct me on the term - foreigner that has become famous for speaking in Japanese) and the last guy I think was connected to him in some way.
Oh.. if you noticed.. Casey WAS in the Japanese trials in Sasuke 22. He was in the losing end of the 30 x 30 tug of war and then lost in the 800 meter run that only the top 10 advanced.
I do know that as much as Monster 9 answers emails. Nothing beats videos and actual submissions. I'm positive these guys paid their way to Sasuke Trials in Japan and didn't ask to be paid to fly there. I'm sure M9 appreciates that kind of effort. They don't discriminate by age since that is not how the market the show. G4 goes after the demographic that is prevalent with the whole network.

Not to be pedantic, but watching the trials, it looked like Casey was on the winning Tug of War team. He also seemed to be there for the balance beam run (in 15 seconds), but not the trampoline high jump. Also, wasn't there a guy named Brian Philip Harlow in Sasuke 21?

LOL You are correct.. Casey WAS on the winning team. So process of elimination he was taken out by the wall like Asa was but that wasn't show Thanks Gazza it's been a while and I wasn't really paying attention to him. Yep Brian was there as well. He replaced another teacher in the lineup that was scratched at the last second iirc. He posted here a couple times so the story is in here somewhere.. I'm waaaaaay too lazy to check for it now

Casey was or is studying in Japan.
Unless you're famous or have won some sort of qualifier, being in Japan at the time of whatever qualification process they are using for any given show and for the taping is pretty important.

Def Oti, I'd recommend anyone that sends a video to G4 do the same.....can't hurt anyway. Besides that, least M9 sees more and more of a following here. so definately can't hurt

Definitely can't hurt and when/if I find the information for M9 I'll post it on my site so they can get it too. Quite frankly the G4 restrictions are ludicrous and the small amount of people and the TYPE of people they pick are not the majority of people out there willing to try out this show. I wish M9 goes back to what they did before and pick whoever they damn pleased.

If I somehow get a response from TBS/M9/Whoever, I'll post it here.
