So what do you all think of it? Personally I don't think it's a bad idea and like the $10,000 prize for the Mega Wall, it makes for good suspense on who will get it. The problem is that I feel it really does impact the results. Because once last competitor is to run, they don't have to get very far to earn it. Looking back at ANW 10, it was Sean vs Drew in Stage 3 and once Drew got to the Cliffhanger faster than Sean he was essentially guaranteed it, which I feel caused him to essentially not put 100% when attempting it because he knew he had nothing to worry about.
Kaden comparatively was giving his all on the Final Stage although he was the only one in the Final so he still had the prize regardless.
So it got me to thinking if there were better ways to utilize it and these are the things I would personally do.
1. I would keep the results of the runners a secret (in Nickelodeon GUTS the players weren't allowed to watch opposing players runs prior to their runs, thus they didn't know how fast they needed to go which made the runs much more thrilling, so something like this would be in effect) and naturally the announcers would not announce the result until after said player beat the mark.
2. Going back to Sean and Drew in ANW 10, Sean hit all buzzers while Drew failed the Stair Hopper in the Finals so I would also put that into effect. In which case if Drew wanted the money he would have to complete the obstacle Sean failed altogether (which he did not) and thus Sean would get the money because he hit all buzzers despite his slower time.
3. Speaking of furthest the fastest, I always felt this system was really broken. Like a competitor gets to an obstacle fast and falls almost immediately, but that same competitor gets there slower, but nearly completes it. I feel it would make more sense if that was implemented for the $100,000. Sean and Drew fell at the same spot so disregarding the aforementioned buzzer implementation he would have obviously been the victor, but since I am implementing that in this scenario Sean would be the winner.
Perhaps this system might have it's own flaws, but I feel like it is more polished than the system currently in play and it really contributed to ANW 10 being incredibly anti-climactic. ANW 13 avoided this, but future seasons could easily fall into that pothole.
