I really feel like it actually put in some effort trying to appeal to fans of the original. Same Olmec. Going from moat to steps of knowledge to temple games to temple run. There were even small things to appreciate like everyone going away with something by way of promotion (something I usually don't like but I appreciate it as homage), the shrine of the silver monkey and some of the same teams.
I like how they seemed to dig deeper with the stories. It's an adults show. Hearing about someone I know about would be kind of boring. The moat was longer and the games had more parts to it.
At the same time, there's some stuff I don't care about. I liked six teams instead of 4. While I appreciate the bigger moat, I didn't care for the execution in the first episode. If the eliminated the last part, it would have been a step up but the last part felt kind of too silly to me. The Temple Games while more wider in tasks, were 2 vs 2. In the original only the last was that way. There are 2 games instead of 3 despite the show being an hour. I wish they broke up the games somehow and allowed for 1 vs 1. But all this is being extremely nitpicky. Also, not a fan of having the contestants speak to the camera as much as they did. That reality feel is something I don't care too much about. But at least it wasn't super drawn out life stories for everyone competing.
Overall this is a fun show that hits the target of appealing to the original while making it slightly more adult. It's a win in my book.

I just hope it doesn't end up being like My Family's Got GUTS and completely missing the mark.

The constant reality TV style confessional cutaways was rough, especially in the first game where there were so many. I would've preferred popups in the corner during the first game and maybe the third, and confessionals only before and after rounds. If they had to cutaway during the first game, then do it only each time a team finishes.
Nickelodeon had a show three years ago called Keep It Spotless that had a similar problem. They had cutaways not just between rounds, but during matches that might have only lasted a minute, which really took you out of the action.
The show lasted one season...

The cutaways are honestly the most frustrating part the more I watch it. I'm more sympathetic to comments made before/after than most are but I can't fathom the idea of during events that are a couple minutes long. I could get it on a show like Amazing Race. But it doesn't need to happen in a format like this. Just show the event and don't cut away for confessional like commentary.
If there is a season 2, that needs to go away. Perhaps my bubble but I don't know anyone who thinks stuff like that enhances a short event.

Congratulations to last week's team for beating the Temple. They even did it without losing a player, only running into one guard. The RNG gods were definitely smiling down on them.
Now I REALLY wanna see if a team can win after losing a player.

One team this week had both players who were on the original show, one from Season 1 and one from Season 2. There was also a surprise visit from Kirk Fogg, the original host. {Spoiler} I think if both of them didn't stop for Kirk, they might have had enough time to get out of the temple. It seems like they only needed around 5 seconds.

Congratulations to this week's team for winning! They also did the next goal I wanted to see, which was to win after losing a player.
Neither of the two winning teams so far have had to complete the Queen's Armory.
That's the next goal I want to see - winning while also having to dress the queen, with or without losing a player.
Team OG from two weeks ago were so close to doing exactly that, but... Kirk.

What I'm seeing throughout the season is that if your item is in the 9th room, and you have to complete the Queen's Armory, you have some chance at reaching the item for $10,000, but not at escaping for $25,000.
The Nerds did pretty well despite not winning anything. I think they had the hardest Temple Run route so far.
The item was in the 9th room, so they had to complete 8 rooms, which they were seconds away from doing.
Only 3 previous teams had their items in the 9th room. Travis Weinand's team (E01) almost completed room 8 (Queen's Armory). Team Jersey (E06) reached the item room with a second left but missed the item. Team Massachusetts (E04) timed out in room 7 with a route going through all three rooms in the left column from top to bottom.
Nerds also had to do all three rooms in the left column but from bottom up, which meant climbing a ladder outside, and climbing another ladder inside after doing the Queen's Armory.
The two winning teams didn't have to complete Queen's Armory, or any room in the left column. Team Construction Women (E03) had to complete 6 rooms to reach the 7th. Cat Team (E07) had to complete 7 rooms to reach the 8th, and they lucked out because that 8th room was the Armory. They reached the room at 47 seconds, went down a ladder and grabbed the item at 39 seconds, and escaped at 13 seconds left, so if they had to complete the Armory, they would've lost 30 seconds plus another 5-10 seconds going up or down a ladder to the next item room, with not even half the seconds needed to escape from either of the two farthest corners of the map.
Team OGs (E05) also had to complete 7 rooms (with Queens Armory) to reach the 8th, and were seconds away from escaping the Temple, but... Kirk.

Not surprising since so many CW shows are being cancelled. This would have had a better chance as a Paramount+ series.
