Now that we got ANW13 announced (aka the season to celebrate the first 10 years of an American Midoriyama course) I wanna talk about something. The course itself. Ever since the double win in ANW 7 the balance of the course has gotten unbearably bad. Stage 1 is a slog nowadays. I mean, 150s for a dulled down and drawn out Shin-SASUKE era course with the occasional new obstacle? The only new obstacle I'd even dare to call "good" would be the Double Dipper. Stage 2 is even worse. The Salmon Ladder+Waverunner combo was actually very satisfying to watch, but the third and fifth obstacle have gotten unbearably difficult, ever since ANW9 when the Deja Vu and the Wingnuts debuted there. I mean - really?! And the stupid Backstream - Wall Lift obstacle is a pain to watch too. Stage 3 is actually okay obstacle wise, but I can't stand the watered down Ultimate Cliffhanger and the widened ledges. Also, throw about some ideas for the potential course renewal since it's been after the victory of "you know what sicko" and we haven't had Vegas ever since the 'rona started.

I hate to be that person but stage 1 will continue to have a long time limit. The reality is they want women finishers. Even the most elite women are slower than the men usually. When women place high on the leaderboards, it is because of completing obstacles and not having a super fast time. That's part of the reason behind the women rule in qualifying and finals. Often in USA vs. The World when women complete the course, it is outside the usual time limit. There is added interest when women do well. And the course isn't a guarantee for anyone. Big names have gone out in stage 1. But if they have a more typical time limit, it would be extremely unlikely any women completes it.
The things I hate with stage 2 is how slow it is and the imbalance of obstacles. The second to last obstacle (with exception of the grim sweeper) was too difficult. When most the people on a specific stage fail the same obstacle it is not as interesting. Also, because of the massive difficulty they have compensated by giving a lot of time to get to that point. Stage 2 really is supposed to be a sprint and it's just not.

The bigger problem is the fact they simply cannot move away from the now stale formula for Stage 1 (at least the women thing kinda justifies the time limit). Why not shorten it a bit to something like, let's say Sasuke RISING levels? 6 major obstacles and a stage ender. And the Stage 2 thing is exactly what I see as the problem, too. Extremely difficult obstacles and terrible pacing.
