Why was Nagano so strong, fast and consistent? How he trained for Sasuke? He was a fisherman at sea, so he couldn't train on replica obstacles like the others, but he was still the best...

From living on sea:
1. Sea legs from walking on a ship most of the year translated to better balance and body control on land. Ever notice how rarely Nagano relies on his hands when on obstacles most people could use only their legs but don’t? Like the Bungee Bridge in Sasuke 18, he was the ONLY competitor shown not to trip and fall down. Or just look at how he dismounts the Rolling Hill. He doesn’t doubt his legs or feet placement and just walked down it in 32 and hopped off.
2. His grip got fortified immensely from hauling those nets full of sea creatures. Don’t underestimate how much arm strength that requires and in turn builds. There’s a good video also on YouTube before Sasuke 21 filmed when Nagano and American G4 competitor Levi Meeuwenberg had a little competition lifting an anchor out of the sea and on to the boat and Nagano smoked Levi. Stuff like that Nagano had to do regularly for his job.
In terms of Nagano himself, the guy is just naturally athletically talented. Remember the clip of him doing a handstand on the top high beam of his ship? The guy is pretty fearless in addition to athletic. That added to his consistency in competition because someone like Yuuji will tell you wearing #100 in Sasuke is immense pressure. It seems like only Nagano, Morimoto, and to an extent Yamada have ever handled it with success.
But back to his athleticism, I remember a post was made here talking about a video showing Nagano getting tested after his 3rd consecutive timeout on Stage 4 for his baseline reaction speeds, body fat percentage, and other things. He scored so well that they said he perhaps had the skills of a professional athlete.
