Aside from the obviously simple things like spider climbing, jumping bars and endurance climbing, I like building my obstacles. It better recreates the... well, obstacles.

I couldn't have put it better myself. I definitely see a problem finding anywhere to appropriately practice something like the Salmon Ladder. Like you said, the only way to truly know if you're capable of completing an obstacle is to beat it as accurately as you can.

Whoa, someone who listens to me. I used to practice the Salmon Ladder on swing sets and it seemed, for the most part, a good way to replicate it. Then I built mine and... yeah... not even close.

Ah, I see. I do a similar thing going up banisters of stairs without putting my feet on the stairs themselves.
