Anyone else think that do-over pass should be eliminated?
1. It gives a second chance to already elite ninjas who need no extra help.
2. It allows ANW to handpick their winner for the season by giving their favorite a second chance to win the million dollar prize to boost their ratings. They can easily put their chosen winner in a qualifier with slower contestants and an easier course playing to their strengths to make sure they win the do-over pass.
3. This pass means no woman will ever get it and frankly I enjoy watching the women in the finals. They should be the ones getting a second chance to even things out.

I really don't think they handpicked the winners of the safety pass lol. All 6 of the city finals safety pass winners from last season all competed in the regional that was closest to their hometown. Unless you're talking about them completely moving away any other potential safety pass candidates from their handpicked winner's region. But even then, I don't think it's safe to say that handpicking someone for a region even remotely guarantees that they'll get the safety pass. Especially after what happened in Seattle and Baltimore last season. I do agree with you about the women though. I feel like if they were to return the safety pass for next year, maybe they could have it so one man and one woman get it from each region? But at that point I'd personally have it removed completely.

I've wanted Safety Passes gone for a while. I'm glad shows like Australia and Germany have added a Power Tower without giving away Safety Passes, because honestly, they don't need to be given out. Every champion (except Drew) did all 4 Stages in 1 go. There's no need to give people a second chance when it's been proven they can do it on the first. However, I understand why America did it. Their courses were too difficult, but they couldn't just nerf the course overall and be like "YAY A CHAMPION!!!" Because even the casual fans would be like "really?". I guess this was their solution to keeping the course kind of the same while making it a little easier.

Safety Passes are horrible. It made Drew's victory feel sour (or course now that's nowhere near the main reason for that!) and just took away the original Sasuke rules and diminished the format. But I can't see them going away from that once they go back to Vegas

I've always agreed with this. The Power Tower is cool. Rewards are cool. But not the Safety Pass, something which completely goes against the spirit of the show.

This most recent season of Australian Ninja Warrior proved you could have it all in 1 go. They had a Mega Wall and a Power Tower with no Safety Passes and what did they get? 3 champions. It's just America deciding to not nerf the course in fear of it looking rigged tbh.

Honestly, Gil was super close without the safety pass or a nerfed stage 3. I have no problem with being able to skip city finals with the speed pass. But the safety pass, I am against. Also with the whole Drew thing, it makes matters worse. I do find the power tower cool but they need something else for beating the city finals. I have no idea what it should be. Anyone have any ideas?

Australia has done Time Limit reductions and Germany is doing cash prizes for their Semi-finals/City Finals. I wouldn't be opposed to either over the Safety Pass.

why don't we just have safety pass be the thing this season, bringing three athletes with you to semis but instead to vegas? i mean, i like the idea of an athlete having external motivation to compete - eg rj roman, joe moravsky were extra extra motivated. i would like that tbh haha

I actually don't mind that suggestion. I still am not a fan of the Power Tower, but if it's going to stay, that's a better use of it than the stinking Safety Passes.

Yeah I don’t like the safety pass either. Takes away from the Sasuke spirit like someone originally said. I wish they would stay with the same vegas courses like Sasuke and they did through like ANW 1-6. I like the idea to keeping vegas the same until someone beats it. Then people know what they are going up against and makes it easier for a winner. When someone wins, then they can totally revamp the course and throw everybody off. Then the cycle repeats of them having to learn new obstacles and train to beat it. On a side note, it would make production cheaper and easier to setup cause it’s the same course for atleast 1-2 seasons.

I'm not against keeping the course pretty similar until someone reaches total victory, but the amount of people that I see complain about similar obstacles makes me question if that's really a good idea in terms of ratings and viewership.

Agreed - I mean, imagine having exactly the same Stage 1 in 2021 as 2019. That would be so anaemic - I'm okay with Tire Run and Diving Boards staying, but Twist and Fly, Archer Steps - so many opportunities missed. That goes for every course in vegas really. I would agree with Ben's statement for the second-to-last of Stage Two, or the Stage Four tower, because those are "boss obstacles" but yeah, not for whole courses.

But imagine having ANY Stage One next year - I'd be so excited if they can do that!
