Did anyone else find the season finale a bit... anaemic?
We always knew it was gonna be smaller scale, but it just seemed to fly by with no fanfare or weight whatsoever. The Power Tower was barely modified from what we've seen before, and the episode basically went "Daniel wins, the end" in five seconds.

That's literally how I felt at the end of last season for whatever reason

Major props to Amir Malik. Crazy that a rookie placed 4th in the season... Funny thing is Joe Moravsky I believe (and Seth Rogers I guess) are the only people to do that in their rookie years, but Amir "knocked"? Joe out (or well it would've been the other way around had Joe not fcked Slam Dunk) Is it wrong to be a little curious about where Drew placed? I mean, I'm kinda shocked he never made finals or top 8 since the power tower playoffs were 100% not edited. Other people have said he looked outta shape and failed the Dungeon in Semis anyways (explaining Jessie Graff being promoted into the 12th slot), so I'm sorta putting my money on him failing like legit early - Falling Shelves, Diamond Dash, most probably Slam Dunk. Tell me if you got the juice
EDIT:Don't mean to come off as insensitive or anything, just putting it out there :\

Someone on r/ANW said he went out on the dragonback. Thank goodness he wasn’t in the final power tower bracket. I really don’t know how you show the final showdowns at all if he makes it that far. What a mess that could have been.

What a mess that could have been. I reckon they wouldn't have been able to show it at all. I reckon they would've probably capped it at finals, gerrymandered the times so that "Daniel Gil wins!" still applies but now to Daniel Gil in 1st on the finals course. This wouldn't have been too sus actually because he was 2nd overall.

IMO, they would've kept the Power Tower bracket, but gone with HEAVY editing overall. They wouldn't have shown the leaderboard nearly as much, and they would've gone from the final regular run... into an ad break... into a (strategically angled/zoomed) fast forward of the race "he" was in (assuming he goes out in the first round). From there, they would show the rest of the top 8 matchups, then the bracket for the final 4.

It was a bit funny seeing nearly everyone grab the first bar on Spin Hopper because it reminded me of Mike Snow's DQ in Australia's Grand Final Stage 2 this year.
Obviously, they wouldn't be grabbing it if the rule was in place, but still a little silly. It's like seeing who tries the Vegas Cliffhanger jump the Sasuke way (the cooler way) or not.
All 7 finishers grabbed the bar. Austin Gray also grabbed the front of the structure similar to Snow.
Jamie Rahn and RJ Roman had their runs start already on the obstacle, and Jon Alexis Jr. was fast-forwarded, so we can't really tell with those three.
Donovan Metoyer was the only one to start Spin Hopper the "proper" way.

Look I would tend to agree but Drew vs Jody Avila did not get shown in qualis so there's no reason why it wouldn't be the same. Simply put it is really too much work. I mean, how do you justify not saying who the opponent is? "Our next matchup is Austin Gray versus an unknown opponent who actually won our previous season!"

I mean, how do you justify not saying who the opponent is? "Our next matchup is Austin Gray versus an unknown opponent who actually won our previous season!" Scrapping a qualifier power tower, and scrapping the finale of the whole season, are completely different. It could easily be done like this: "Daniel Gil's result means that he's MOVING ON to the Power Tower!" (repeat x6 with all the other qualifiers). "And with that, it's time to move on to our first ever Power Tower Playoff, coming up next, on American Ninja Warrior!" "Welcome back to the SEASON FINALE of American Ninja Warrior! While we were away, we kicked off our electrifying Power Tower playoff with a bang! Jody Avila powered through the obstacles, hitting the buzzer and moving on to the top 4! "Next up is a matchup between two competitors who have blown us away so far: Daniel Gil and Jesse Labreck!" Just replace Jody with whoever the opponent was, and this could be done.

I get that 100% but that is at least going to be leaving viewers wondering wtf is going on. Casual viewers who don't know who tf Drew Drechsel was in ANW are gonna be asking questions, and that's the main thing. The people who knew who he was would look his name up and find out, which is also alright, but you don't want people who never knew him to be raising an eyebrow

It wouldn't be ideal, but it'd be the best of a bad situation.

The lack of grand final stages similar to Sasuke was the big letdown to a shortened season of ANW. This is why I give up watching this show for good because it just isn't the same anymore. Instead of a power tower course to decide it all, it should have been the Team Ninja Warrior obstacle course. Even though the Drew conversation is still ongoing, it doesn't matter anymore. But I will watch Sasuke 38 though.

I will say though, despite the letdown of a season, the rookies had a strong showing! Cameron and Malik specifically are two rookies I'm very interested in seeing take on this course during its classic format.

Thank goodness he wasn’t in the final power tower bracket. I really don’t know how you show the final showdowns at all if he makes it that far. What a mess that could have been. They're lucky they didn't put him on one of the big banners in the background. That would have been really hard to edit out.

I saw the truck with him in the background in episode 7, but weird it all happened to be so our of the way.

I saw the truck with him in the background in episode 7, but weird it all happened to be so our of the way. It really wasn't out of the way. It was visible (sometimes from the start line) in literally every episode of the season, and was right next to the final obstacle in both the Semi Finals and Finals. I'd say they did a good job blurring it though, it really wasn't noticeable at all.

I wonder what they'd have done if Drew had been in the power tower playoffs and a guy who fell on the 9th obstacle would've won

They'd CG his face and make him into a new character named Stew Pretzel.

"Oh no! Stew's in the drink!"
"Pretzel's gonna be salty about that one."
And of course...
"Can't believe this Matt, Stew years in a row!"

I wonder what they'd have done if Drew had been in the power tower playoffs and a guy who fell on the 9th obstacle would've won I'm not sure if they would have cared too much if a guy who failed on the 9th obstacle won. Previous season Drew failed stage 1 and ended up winning. But production really dodged a bullet with Drew not winning. The fact that he didn't make the top 8 made things a lot easier. If Drew won, I'm not sure if there even would have been a season aired. I suppose they could have done something like have the winner be the fastest finalist and skip the power tower altogether in the broadcast. But it would have been sloppy. All in all, the production did a great job removing Drew. If you didn't know he was there, you wouldn't have even known.
