It's crazy to think by the time this trial actually does happen, it will have been close to, if not 2+ years since the news broke out as to what happened. I can't believe how fast time has been going by as a whole. I remember when I first mentioned that this could take years I was laughed at. Mostly in disbelief because at the time many thought the charges were not real and he would be out on bail this whole time. Then when he was denied bail they still didn't understand how backlogged the system was. This is Federal court. The normal is over a year. Regular court is backed up 3 years plus... and this was BEFORE Covid. Who knows when this is going to happen at this point with all of the delays. Philadelphia in particular is notoriously backlogged and there are still a lot Covid restrictions that are not in place in 40+ more states. So I'm not sure when anything will move at this point. We are past the 1+ years I expected this would get to trial.

EDIT: Screwed up the format since I wanted to cut and paste and quote... Hopefully I fixed the formating on the my February message and put the correct thing out on this one today. Sorry about that. No new filing today. Just giving a heads up to look out next week for a new filing of some sort since the deadline approaches. Got a new filing today www.courtlistener.com/docket/17413319/united-states-v-andrew-drechsel/#entry-34Another 90 day continuance I'm assuming. They are using Ends of Justice again. I'll quote my older post explaining what that is. New continuance announced today. (for those unaware of the language it means they have a 90 day delay added - this pushes the trial 3 months. That's all continuance means) He has waived his right to a speedy trial (which is a law) and therefore by accepting this delay (continuance) no trial date is set yet. So if today is the 15th that they mentioned then that takes it to May 15? (90 day) before any trial can start. If someone can confirm that date that would be awesomely appreciated. This time next week we enter the next window. So the 13th is next Friday. As per usual we could get something before that time but if it is a Friday we usually don't see anything on the Courtlistener site until Monday (which would be the 16th).

Strange that we havent seen any updates. It took two weeks for that to update I believe was the last time or the time before that (Edit: the December update). I suspect even when they do it will be another announcement of a delay.

Are there any updates, Arsenette? The link to the Court Listener document is there and I'm just as baffled why a month later it hasn't been updated. The only thing I can think of is that he waived his right to a speedy trial so the requirement may be waived? I don't know. COVID delays to an already backlogged system is causing the delay. That said the original estimate of 1 1/2 years I gave from indictment to trial for a Federal case (3 years is typical for state and local system) is still on track. We are a couple months from the full 2 year mark from the indictment so we'll see.

We are a couple months from the full 2 year mark from the indictment so we'll see. Technically speaking now he's in a state jail under remand right - pre-trial detention or whatever it's called? He was transferred to a Federal facility (yes Pre-trial detention but that only correlates to what floor he's being kept - in the event he is a post trial inmate he moves to a different floor and not necessarily different facility) but it is Federal and out of the State system (which is why they are not required to post updates on their website about their inmates aside from name and location of detention. Which is why we can't use the state website to get things like mugshots, etc. that was updated daily). Just so happens to be in Philadelphia. He was in state jail 4 times (1 in Florida (initial arrest) and I think 3 (possibly 2 I don't remember) in New Jersey) while he fought (and lost) bail proceedings. And for the record I have no idea why Court listener doesn't have an update. I was just speculating that since he waived a speedy trial maybe the requirement to post updates (which is part of the requirement explaining why he hasn't had a trial scheduled) may be why we haven't heard anything. I honestly have no idea. EDIT: I don't know if people know where he is. Here's the link to the facility. It should have information on the breakdown of their population. I remember doing that a while back. For those curious that is.

I check every so often Court Listener to see when the listings have publicly available (i.e. free) documents. Usually about a couple weeks after the initial filing goes on the page. Btw thanks to anwsuperfan for buying the pages so he can update everyone on the dates and whatnot. I for one really appreciate him doing this. A lot. New filing posted today. This Extension lasts up until Sep 30th. It feels like trial won’t happen until 2024 lol Something of note from the 2 pages posted. I cut and pasted the middle part so I can highlight something important that at least it going on (instead of a normal COVID Delay yada yada). For those trying to understand what the words mean: "Discovery" is evidence (papers, interviews both written and verbal, video, etc.). By law Drew has to see what the government has against him so that he can properly defend himself. So the government gave the court some "discovery materials" but it is informal this time. So.. to further confirm (it has been years) what I remember that to mean I checked online to get the definition: So it is moving. He has 90 days to review the new evidence and decide what he's going to do.

At this rate, he should plead guilty and serve whatever sentence they throw at him instead of staying in limbo. I feel like if he was set up in any way, it'd have been clear by now or we'd have some sort of progress. Not familiar with court procedures overall I have to admit but it's been awfully long for what seemed like a case with clear cut evidence.

Not familiar with court procedures overall I have to admit but it's been awfully long for what seemed like a case with clear cut evidence. Completely understand your frustration. However I mentioned over 2 years ago how backlogged the system is especially in a densely populated corridor as the Northeast (PA, NJ and NY in particular). What threw all of it out of whack was COVID where everything came to a grinding halt. Normal Federal cases take 1-2 years anyway so this is still on track but the year of COVID delays and the introduction of new victims takes time since they have several jurisdictions (states, counties and cities) to contend with. He's going to fight this for any chance of getting out of prison. Remember what he's facing - life in prison. Several counts of it. For the Feds to convince all 12 jurors to convict him in full you need a solid case with an overwhelming amount of evidence. We aren't just talking about Victim #1. We got 4 now that we know of.

New 90 day extension. This one goes through Dec 26, 2022 Just a reminder that December 26 is a Monday and when Christmas is on a Sunday this year usually the Federally observed holiday is observed on Monday. Given also how long it was to update the last time.. it may be in the new year when we get another extension. Here is the post that has the terminology and what to expect from the next update provided it is just another continuance. Yes we are all just as frustrated at how slow things are.. it's worse during the holiday season as we are familiar with how long this is taking just to GET a trial date.

Almost 2 1/2 years later now since this story unfolded.....Makes me wonder if the rest of the internet has mostly forgotten about him, but we know he'll come back into the spotlight (not in a good way obviously) when things eventually do move forward. I still see clips every now and then of Drew's Sasuke performances, but now they feel like ancient history given how much time has passed since then.

Yeah it's official, no way he goes free after this. If it takes this long to find someone guilty, you know it's only a matter of time.
