Stage 2 has been functionally identical since RISING. I have devised a way to redesign stage 2 to return it to the action packed stage it used to be.
Time Limit: 1:30. Nothing too drastic there
1: Rope Glider Obviously not as extreme as it was in 18, but just a moderate challenge to get the stage off to a running start.
2: Crooked Salmon Ladder Alternating rungs, a set of parallel rungs at the top for a proper jump
3: Chain Saw (27 version) Jump straight into the Chain Saw (with the bar being parallel, obviously), at least one person will always be caught off guard
4: Spider Walk Nothing different here
5: Spider Drop Nothing different here
6: some sort of trampoline obstacle. Double Giant Swing perhaps?
7: Gyakuso Conveyor Nothing different here
8: Wall Lifting Nothing different here

Each to their own, but remember that Stage 2 had been the same from SASUKE 7-17, and SASUKE 18-27, respectively, so it's really not that strange to see the stage remain similar in the RISING era.
I honestly wouldn't change anything except switch the Salmon Ladder Nobori/Kudari with the Swap Salmon Ladder, except to make it harder and avoid the stupid DQ rule, hide any rungs except the rung the competitor is on and the rung that the competitor should transition to, meaning that if they fail they fail properly without any DQ rule. Then, transition to a new obstacle like the Wave Runner or something similar to that.
I wouldn't change too much as we haven't seen the Rolling Log yet, which was, in my opinion, a pretty good idea. I also really like the Backstream (yes I know, controversial), because that tied in with the Conveyer and Walls just makes that trio super tough.
What does need to be changed though is the time limit; maybe reduce it from 110 to 100 seconds or something. Stage 2 shouldn't be overly difficult as it's a transitionary stage, separating the veterans from the merely 'fairly strong' (hence why we get a lot of rookies reaching Stage 2 but not 3), but it should be exciting and a time-race like it was conceived to be originally.

At least when the Second Stage remain almost the same for eleven tournaments, you had some obstacles *and combined with strict time limit* to actually make it interesting. Now it feels lame, especially with that Backstream *always more prefer Metal Spin, or, hell, I would even take Balance Tank back*, and sometimes a (very) lenient time limit, make Second Stage losing its charm.

Nuke it and make the qualifier for Stage 3 take place underwater in the backstream where competitors have to see which of them can hold their breath underwater the longest while Kuramochi Minoru rubs octopuses on them and Akiyama and Nagano unleash their crabs. This will make up for all the time nobody except like two people ever went underneath and "with" the current in all 9 of that thing's appearances and actually beat it (like it was originally intended).

I remember once Nagano capture a shark on a show and someone who was with him fall into the net filled with that shark.

I don't get why everyone hates the Backstream. I know touching water usually means disqualification but I think that's what made its debut so exciting (even if it was in a suckitude of a tournament i.e. 28); also there's a difference between clean warm water and the freezing murky water you fall into if you fail. Also, as I mentioned before, it makes the Reverse Conveyer actually hard unlike in its early tournaments, as well as the Wall Lift.
A cool idea would be to modify the Spider Walk such that the walls are backwards conveyers so that you have to go at a certain speed otherwise you fail.
Or even replace the Backstream and Wall Lift with the Water Walls like ANW has done; but then the time limit would need to be increased as that s*** takes like a minute to do.

I might disagree to your Backstream idea, but, really, commenting over it will only result in more debate *might need a thread about it, if it not exist yet*, so I won't go there. For Spider Walk idea, I would say no. Not everyone has speedy move like Nagano, sometimes someone moves like Shoei *SASUKE 8* or Paul *SASUKE 17*. Even at first attempt, Nagano moves a little slow compared to his speed in later tournaments. If that feature exist back then, Nagano won't able to reach Pipe Slider and as result, no All-Stars status for him, because the producers will still doubt about his ability.

I'm talking about an update to the course now; you're right, it would've probably been too hard in the early All-Stars era cos everyone went slowly on the Spider Walk then.
