Yes, you read that right, no, this isn't a sick late April Fools joke. After 10 years of blank, Sportsman No. 1 returns in what seems to be in the form of a clip show, airing 8 June from 9:00~10:57 PM JST (8:00~9:57 AM ET, 5:00~6:57 AM PT, 12:00~1:57 PM GMT). There's still more info to come, when that happens, I'll of course let you guys know. Here's a translation of the site: “Revived in Reiwa! Sportsman No. 1 Championship Legends” “The legendary athletic programme that has created many great matches revives in Reiwa! Top athletes from every field of life go head to head to compete! Who is the strongest ever athlete!?” Description: “The legendary sports programme ‘Sportsman No. 1 Championships’ that remains in television history is revived in Reiwa at the highest level. The iron man from track and field, Koji Murofushi vs Kane Kosugi vs rugby’s Ohata vs Major Leage players vs gymnasts, who will win?” Starring: Ichiro Furutachi (commentary), Kane Kosugi (actor), Daisuke Ohata (rugby), Makoto Minamiyama (basketball), Akinori Iwamura (baseball), Naoki Iketani (gymnastics), Masashi Kawaguchi (American football), Daisuke Nakata (trampoline), Koji Murofushi (hammer throw), Shoei (talento), Tuffy Rhodes (baseball), Toshihisa Nishi (baseball), Norichika Aoki (baseball), and others

An ad has been uploaded to TBS' YouTube channel! It appears to not just be showing things from Sportsman, but also some stuff from normal Banzuke. Also shows a new logo for both...

This tweet went out a couple hours ago - not sure if it holds any further information but the SASUKE accounts are pushing this too!

At the current time of writing this, TBS have released 11 new videos for Sportsman, including interviews (even Furutachi himself was interviewed lol) and some special moments in the show's history! You can find said playlist here.

Reminder that this airs in just 30 minutes! And I’ve heard some people suggest that if ratings go well, there could be a full return? Just speculation though. Either way, if able, now’s a good time to go find a stream and watch!

Some comments in spoilers just in case: {Spoiler}It's basically a re-airing of the 2002 Pro Sportsman which is notable for three Sportsman records for the Workout Guys (Kane Kosugi), the Monster Box (Naoki Iketani) and Shotgun Touch (Daisuke Ohata). Ages ago I uploaded the Sportsman clips from the Muscle Wars PS2 game. A bunch of those highlights are from this show. -Edit- Duh, Muscle Wars came out in 2001, before this show. They use the same clips for Gon Nakayama's Monster Box and the Dash record though. It will come down to Kane and two-time Olympic medalist Koji Murofoshi. This is maybe the first Sportsman I ever saw. I might even still have part of it on tape. Wikipedia Link

Couple things to add: Yes, they brought the Shotgun Touch set TO Ronaldinho. I think MJ was in Japan. The other Monster Box record they show (Hisashi Mizutori) and the Gallon Throw are from the 2005 Sportsman but they are in Athens for the 2004 Summer Olympics. 2004 was the year Murofoshi won his gold medal in the hammer throw. Not to take away from Mizutori (and Morgan Hamm who also set the record) but they didn't have to compete in multiple events before getting their records. Have to give Iketani that.

That Michael Jordan video, it was from 1996 *I guess before his return from first retirement* when he won 9 Hoops. In 2000 *after his second retirement*, he attempt 9 Hoops II, but lost. However, right after that, he become the 27th person to attempt 9 Hoops Hide, and be the first one to win it.
