Heat 2 Results: Clears: TBA cuz I lost track. Updated soon. Mega Wall Clears: 0 Top 2: Eric Zekina vs. Rene Casselly Power Tower Winner: Rene Casselly (winning money and a Speed Pass to the Finale) This race was SUPER close. About a half a second was the difference between 1st and 2nd. Full Leaderboard: TBA (link posted when they post)
Rene Casselly is the most notable name you may recognize. They put a lot of emphasis on his Sasuke 37 run and he briefly spoke about when he met Inui! It was pretty cool.

Short recap / my thoughts on heat 2: {Spoiler}Two times finalist Michael Siegmund (aka Tarzan) was solid and actually finished for the first time in a heat. Then Eric Zekina finished fast without really being at his limit. In the end it was even enough for the Power Tower. Daniel Schmidt, a three-time finalist, was surprisingly not invited to the competition at first, but thankfully was later. He was fast on his way but because of this he had a failed attempt at the Warped Wall. Therefore he "only" finished third, 0.8 seconds had been missing to qualify for the Power Tower.
Then an insane performance by Katharina Blank. She only fails at The Hinge. In the end she became 17th, which was almost enough to qualify for the semi-finals without the special rule for women (top 16). Possibly a candidate for Last Woman Standing. Her teammates from Team Ninja Warrior, the El-Azzazy brothers who are both two-times finalists, unexpectedly failed both at Salmon Ladder. Strange. The other woman who qualified for the semi-finals was Elisa van der Wel. The decision was relatively close because she and climbing powerhouse Tabitha failed at the same obstacle (Bouncing Spider) and Elisa was 12 seconds faster than Tabitha.
And finally the two favourites of heat 2: Max Prinz and René Casselly. Max Prinz, third last season, was quite good. He failed the Mega Wall, even though he was already on it with one hand. The following fall at the Mega Wall could have been much worse. This brought back memories of the last season, when Kim Marschner injured his foot at the Mega Wall like this and was therefore unable to compete in the semi-finals. Fortunately, nothing happened to Max Prinz. After him, René Cassely was the last participant to start. During its introduction, some scenes of his appearence in SASUKE 2019 were shown. Back to the course, René was dominating, fast and also risky. But he took his time for the Mega Wall and failed it. Even though he was the fastest, an even faster time was possible for him. In the end there were 11 finishers, 5 more than in heat 1. I think that the course was a little easier to finish because in heat 2 the penultimate obstacle (The Hinge) didn't require the use of only the arms all the way through, but you could use the feet to help.
Power Tower: René Cassely vs Eric Zekina Reé got into the duel better at the giant stairs. After that he leaves a lot of time. But he can make up for this by swinging quickly from bar to bar. At the last jump before the buzzer, René in my opinion interferes with Eric who is still a bit ahead, so Eric has to wait with the jump. René takes advantage of this and wins the photo finish. And again Ninja Warrior Germany was the top-rated TV show in Prime Time with 2.6 million viewers and a 19.9 % demo rating ( Source).

Short recap / my thoughts on heat 3: {Spoiler}It has been confirmed that the Final Stage will be in the open air. And there was a banner that you can now apply for 2021. Awesome!
With Leon Wismann, there was an 18-year-old newcomer who had prepared for Ninja Warrior for 3 years, finished in the top 10 in Ninja competitions and is now old enough to participate in the TV show. And he cleared for the first time. Then one of the two favourites in this heat: Artur Schreiber. As expected, he cleared with a fast time. In the end, it was even the fastest time in this heat. Marvin Mitterhuber, participant in all five seasons so far, reached the last handle of The Clacker. Tobias Eberle, second participation for him and reached the Second Stage last year, was partially cut out and failed the Block Run. Industrial mechanic Fabian Ströbele was the surprise of this heat: His first time ever in a Ninja course and he cleared with the second fastest time. And Timo Seifried, an American football player, also cleared.
Funniest story: Last year the Austrian Stephan Schmid stood on the Swing Surfer for 9 minutes, but could never really take up swing and failed. Now he could swing and reached the last the handle of The Clacker. Then the Ninja couple: Bendikt Sigmund and Arleen Schüßler, the reigning Last Woman Standing. Benedikt almost failed the Bouncing Spider due to a careless mistake after he had already mastered the most difficult. In the end, both reached the The Clacker. The Swiss woman Astrid "Krasstrid" Sibon, probably one of the top 3 woman in last years, reached Salmon Ladder. So with Arleen and Astrid, two women were in the top 16 (13th & 15th).
And finally the comeback of Benni Grams! 3rd in 2017, 4th in 2018 and a break in 2019. He's famous for being one of the fastest. And he had an insane fast time, comparable to René Casselly in heat 2, but suddenly failed the Salmon Ladder. Fortunately, he became 14th and reached the semi-finals. In the end, 5 clears and no Mega Wall clear.
Power Tower, Artur vs Fabian: Both fell down once, in the end Artur clearly wins.

My thougths on heat 4:
{Spoiler} Highlight of this heat: Nico Hädicke's save on Bouncing Spider ( Image). Otherwise, the new ninja couple were there: Oli Edelmann and Stefanie Noppinger. Oli Edelmnn, first Last Man Standing and one of the rare athletes who were always in the final, set the fastest time of the heat. Stefanie Noppinger, who lost very close last year in the race for Last Woman Standing, was the first woman in this season to clear the course. Congratulations to her! For me the absolute favourite for this season's Last Woman Standing. She even had the chance of the second fastest time with a quick first attempt on the Warped Wall but failed. That would have meant a duel of the couple at the Power Tower. However, it came to the duel between Oliver Edelmann and police officer Michael Streif, which Oli Edelmann was able to win easily.

The courses are starting to get repetitive now, even by Germany's standards. I understand they've always cycled through obstacles, and I understand that COVID didn't allow them to pull out all the stops, but 3 hour episodes of the same stinking obstacles every week is nuts. ANW has 3 obstacles that stayed constant: The Shrinking Steps, Warped Wall, and Salmon Ladder (for Semis only).
Germany has basically all of it the same: Archer Steps, a net obstacle, Bouncing Spider, Salmon Ladder, Warped Wall. That leaves 3 spots for new obstacles, and now even those are starting to be recycled (Barrel Roll and Crank It Up brought back this week). I love Germany, and I still have high hopes for the finale, but this is tougher to watch than previous seasons.

The premiere is on right now!!! So far, proving to be a fun show, remaining one of the more consistent spinoffs in Europe. Also, the course is completely off. Remember that filming order ≠ airing order. So far I've really liked having 8 obstacle heats although some obstacle choices have been odd and the obstacle repetition isn't great. That being said it's still a huge improvement on last year's pretty poor heats - hope this continues throughout the season!

Short recap of heat 5:
{Spoiler} David Eilenstein, once already in the finals, has only now been able to clear a course. Christian Harmat, parkour world champion and four-time Ninja Warrior Germany finalist, disappointed. He failed with a careless mistake, but still managed to qualify for the semi-finals with a 15th place. Simon Brunner, on the other hand, was able to finish with a very fast time, which in the end was enough for the second fastest time. He had painted the letter 'A' on the back of his hand, so that he was reminded to breathe when hanging (German for breathe: Atmen). Tatjana Holz was about to finish as the second woman this season but failed just before the Warped Wall.
Moritz Hans was in the final of Let's Dance (German version of Strictly Come Dancing (UK) / Dancing with the Stars (US)) a week before the Ninja Warrior Germany recordings and therefore couldn't practice for Ninja Warrior for months. So he was very careful. In the end, however, he was the second in this season to clear the Mega Wall. And finally Kim Marschner: Second in the 3rd season, injured in the 4th season and now with the fastest time of this season's heats so far (although the heats aren't exactly comparable). Kim Marschner also won the Power Tower vs. Simon Brunner.

Heat 6: {Spoiler} In last heat of the season only three athletes could clear the course: Milan Schirowski, Daniel Gerber and Alex Grunwald. With Enrico Meister, a fourth participant made it to the Warped Wall, but he failed. Daniel Gerber won the Power Tower race. By the way, it's disappointing that Benjamin Reichmann isn't participating this season. He achieved a surprising success last year, reaching the Third Stage and becoming 4th overall.
Semi-final 1 These 25 out of 49 athletes reached the final (+ 3 Power Tower winners who were already qualified (Q)):
{Spoiler} Q. Artur Schreiber - Clear (M), 04:27.76 1. Giovanni Ertl - Clear (M), 05:26.94
2. Benjamin Grams - Clear (M), 05:36.11
3. Max Sprenger - Clear (M), 05:54.23
4. Samuel Dufner - Clear, 05:56.97 Q. Lukas Kilian - Clear (M), 06:03.48 5. Leon Wismann - Clear, 06:08.64 6. Richard Pech - Clear, 06:10.30 7. Christian Kirstges - Clear (M), 06:13.93 8. Fabian Ströbele - Clear, 06:29.38 9. Niklas Woltmann - Clear, 06:43.92 10. Alexander Wurm - Clear, 06:44.18 11. Philipp Göthert - Clear, 07:11.01 12. Max Prinz - Clear, 07:11.32 13. Jescher Heidl - Clear, 10:21.23 14. Astrid Sibon - Clear, 10:39.15 Q. René Casselly - Double Dipper (2nd pipe) (M), 03:07.22 15. Marius Bender - Double Dipper (2nd pipe), 05:25.83 16. Lukas Kern - Double Dipper (2nd pipe), 06:18.27 17. Marvin Mitterhuber - Double Dipper (2nd pipe), 07:45.75 18. Rene Sperlich - Double Dipper (2nd pipe), 08:24.66 19. Eric Zekina - Double Dipper (1st pipe), 05:05.93 20. Björn Graul - Double Dipper (1st pipe), 05:48.81
21. Daniel Schmidt - Double Dipper (1st pipe), 06:12.27 22. Christian Range - Double Dipper (1st pipe) (M), 07:33.75 23. Frank Schmidpeter - Double Dipper (1st pipe), 09:22.98 24. Christian Krömer - Double Dipper (1st pipe), 11:37.87 25. Timo Seifried - Ferris Wheel (2nd wheel, end), 05:15.83
16 clears, 8 Mega Wall clears (M).
None of the three Power Tower winners needed the Speed Pass. René Casselly was by far the fastest, but failed shortly before the end. With Astrid Sibon a woman has made it to the final. She could even clear the course. The funnierst moment for me were the three from the Sperlich family: All three tried the Mega Wall, even though they didn't stand a chance. And two of them failed their attempt on the Warped Wall and were eliminated. The same fate awaited the reigning Last Woman Standing. Arleen Schüßler announced beforehand that she wouldn't try the Mega Wall because it would take too much time. Without the attempt she has more chances to get ahead. Then she stood in front of the Mega Wall and let herself be talked into trying the Mega Wall. She failed the Mega Wall and then she failed the Warped Wall. Eliminated.

It's not cheap to bring in all these obstacles, build them, replace them again, etc, especially in 2020. Don't know about Sasuke or ANW, but at NWG you pay to go see a taping. I think the finals are even like 20€. And maybe this year they had less time to get it done with the next lockdown already around the corner.
So it's either this or nothing at all like in England, France, Switzerland

Enrico Meister - Fallout (1st disk), 04:05.40 24. Marius Holzinger - Fallout (1st disk), 04:08.70 25. Markus Malle - Fallout (1st disk), 04:32.50 Q. Kim Marschner - Fallout (1st handle), 01:49.60 The crux this time was the obstacle Fallout, especially the second handle. Facing this obstacle, top competitors such as Alex Grunwald (eliminated), Jun Kim, Joel Mattli as well as the already qualified Oli Edelmann and Kim Marschner failed. With Stefanie Noppinger, exactly one woman qualified for the final, as in the first semi-final. A woman who would also have been expected to do this, Tatjana Holz, recklessly failed at the second obstacle. The top times in the second semi-final were not as impressive as those from the first semi-final. But I think that this isn't really meaningful. And then in 15 minutes it goes on with the Final, Stage 1.

Agreed, even in the smaller spinoffs that are indoors and stick to the basic format, the cost to produce a single episode is truly eye-watering (Ninja Warrior UK costed hundred of thousands per episode). It may seem trivial to just bring in a few obstacles and build them, but production costs are already sky high and they don't want to bloat the bill any more.

FINAL, STAGE 1 Course: {Spoiler}Quad Steps Double Twister Rolling Log Floating Stairs Giant Wheel to Bag Grab (NWUK) Lightning Bolts Warped Wall Pole Grasper Grim Sweeper
Time limit: 04:30 min Results: {Spoiler}16 out of 56 qualified for Stage 2. Stefanie Noppinger became Last Woman Standing.
1. Daniel Gerber - 03:54.80 2. Samuel Dufner - 03:58.60 3. René Casselly - 03:58.90 4. Alexander Wurm - 04:01.00 5. Oliver Edelmann - 04:03.60 6. Joel Mattli - 04:04.10 7. Giovanni Ertl - 04:08.10 8. Marius Holzinger - 04:13.30 9. Mark Degebrodt - 04:15.10 10. Max Sprenger - 04:15.60 11. Jun Kim - 04:16.50 12. Krister Kröll - 04:17.80 13. Leon Wismann - 04:23.30 14. Moritz Hans - 04:23.80 15. Kim Marschner - 04:25.00 16. Philipp Göthert - 04:25.10 Thoughts: {Spoiler}The intro was a bit weird but nice. The athletes were machines and the hosts showcased some of the machines' skills or characteristics by controlling them with their tablets. Then, as always, the course and Mount Midoriyama were presented. This time, they said that if more than one clears the Mount Midoriyama in the time limit, only the fastest will become the first German Ninja Warrior and win the prize money. Could be an implication that something like with Geoff Britten and Isaac Caldiero is about to happen at NWG.
Artur Schreiber, Lasse von Freier and Simon Brunner were so close to clear Stage 1. But they failed to grab the cargo net after the Grim Sweeper. Some other top athletes like Christian Kirstges, Benjamin Grams, Max Prinz and Christian Harmat also failed at the Grim Sweeper. With Max Prinz it was particularly unfortunate, since he had the save of the season before at the Giant Wheel to Bag Grab. But after that his powers went out at some point.
And shortly before the end there was the duel for the Last Woman Standing: Stefanie Noppinger vs. Astrid Sibon. Since both were eliminated in Stage 1, the decision was made today. After Stefanie Noppinger narrowly missed the title last season, this time she became Last Woman Standing.

My thoughts on the 2nd final show:
{Spoiler} A whole season build-up for this highlight. And then Stage 2 was so disappointing. There was one difficult obstacle that put a lot of strain on the forearms: Captain's Wheel. But even that obstacle was used in last season's heats. All other obstacles in Stage 2 were too easy for the final. There were even only two wingnuts. The time limit was also set too high. Instead of 03:00 minutes this should have been 02:30 minutes. 13 out of 16 athletes have therefore entered Stage 3. Without a doubt strong performances. But I don't know if a move into Stage 3 is as impressive this season as it was in the previous seasons. But Stage 3 saved everything for me and was definitely the highlight of season 5. Fun fact: This course was the only one in this season that was shown from left to right again. And directly the first obstacle, the Floating Boards, sorted out many atheletes and fixed the situation. Only 6 out of 13 cleared the Floating Boards. Max Sprenger and Moritz Hans failed one obstacle further at the Cane Lane, probably due to lack of focus. The personal trainer Giovanni Ertl reached the Cliffhanger and is for sure the most improved athlete in the competition as he always failed to qualify for the semi-finals before. By the way, Giovanni Ertl was with René Casselly, Jun Kim, Joel Mattli, Benedikt Sigmund, Arleen Schüßler and Christian Kirstges at the NNL World Championchips 2020 in North Carolina. However, the top three athletes this season, René Casselly, Kim Marschner and Alexander Wurm were in a league of their own. Very impressive. I especially liked their figure-four at the Peg Cloud. It's a pity that it wasn't enough for anybody for the Mount Midoriyama. But that's one of the things that makes the show so special. And Alexander Wurm is the best for the third time: a three-peat! Congratulations! In the future I would like to see one of the professional climbers from NWG (Alexander Wurm, Kim Marschner, Moritz Hans and Max Prinz) participating in ninja competitions outside Germany. Overall, I liked season 5, despite the circumstances because of Covid-19.
