This is not a shot at him but more of an observation. Hasn't Grant M failed to qualify for Vegas 2 years in a row now nor has made it past the Salmon Ladder in stage 2? So why does he keep being treated like an all star? I'm sure there are others along this same path but he's been the more obvious to me.

Yeah he's not that great compared to other popular competitors, but since he has a big personality, they're gonna keep hyping him up.

But could be cause hes over hyped. But I loved his seriousness last year however so I hope to see more of that this year.

He's gained a lot of popularity and is constantly a promoter of ANW on social media. His personality is big, and he's promoted as a ninja from Hawaii (even though he only moved there in his 20s, so maybe I'll be the Hawaiian Ninja on that show that was actually raised there ). Not to mention he's now placed 16th twice in a row. He has what it takes to make Vegas, and a story is now being made out of his track record. Unless he just fails to deliver again, I don't think he's going anywhere for a while.

I tried making the same point on a Facebook post and people weren't having it. There's many people who don't get much air time who are pretty good. It should go to someone like that. He's good. He's made Vegas a few times and cleared stage 1. He has some popularity but he's not at the legend level of getting to stages 3 or 4. He's largely popular for getting shown often. Some of the other ninjas who did better this year could get some better recognition.

When they showed the graphic with the six cities last week that had a competitor's face for each, he was the one "representing" his city. (The others were, if memory serves, Kevin Bull, Drew Dreschel, Barclay Stockett, Najee Richardson, and Jessie Graff.) I thought that was an odd choice.

It's also weird since he's usually competing in LA - not the Ohio area. Still, I think y'all are being a bit harsh. He has what it takes to do well, but he's made some mistakes. I trust he will learn as he goes (especially after last year), and I think it's more about his sort of free-spirit personality for the show's producers (remember this voyage to Alaska? I actually enjoyed that story). And he's pretty nice in real life!

In recent years his performance has fallen short of his true potential, but in his first two years he really was quite good IIRC - one of the final 17 in ANW 8, one of I think 6 to have done it in both the 2015 and 2016 years. He also beat the Hourglass Drop in Venice twice which is an achievement for anyone considering greats like David Campbell and Arnold Hernandez failed the obstacle as well.
