Excited to see where it goes! I never LOVED this spinoff but I think it's a lot stronger than a few

When I first read the Mega Wall caption, I breifly thought that the "m" stood for minutes and not meters, and I was certainly confused lol. Though it would be cool to have a higher Wall (maybe 16 feet) in Stage One of Vegas that competitors could opt to try and get a time bonus if they clear it. Would be a good way to mix it up. And at least France knows a good balance obstacle when they see one I'm afraid that after this taping it'll be RIP Tuning Forks though

Just thought I'd post this coz the aesthetics of the obstacle in pic 3 are giving me Sasuke 19 half-pipe attack flashbacks:

What happened to this show? Did it air already? No, it normally airs in mid-summer but last year it didn't air until August - we'll have to wait and see!

Yet another air date lol: starts Friday 5th July on TF1 ...and apparently The mega wall has a €5000 prize and more interestingly anyone who climbs it moves on directly to the finals.
And Nail Clipper is a 2nd position obstacle... So is pipe fitter... And ring turn.

Probably about time I told you guys about the new heats stage 2 format - I've already mentioned stage 1's new layout in an earlier post, can't remember whether I mentioned mega wall rules so I'll include those in this post too. Heats stage 1: Ob 1 is Archer Steps in all heats, 2 is normally an upper body obstacle, split path 3 and 4, joins back together for warped Wall and mega wall.
Mega wall prize: €5,000 and a pass straight to the finals
Stage 2 format: It's Ninja vs Ninja... yes I know. 2 competitors face off on a pretty fast and easy course, winner goes to the final, loser goes home. There's only actually one course as opposed to 2 so the screen will be split in half to show the two runs side by side. Weird I know.

{Spoiler} Ridiculous new format, stage 2 is a joke. You could in theory be the 2nd fastest runner overall on stage 2 and still be eliminated. It doesn't reward you for your performance, it punishes you for the opponent's performance.

The heats have finished, overall not too impressed. The new split path didn't work - looked a bit messy on camera and in most episodes the competitors mostly chose the same path (and as a result the Tuning Forks were attempted by one single competitor). Editing and obstacle choices were also pretty poor, with the final heat being the best of a bad bunch. Devil Steps, Doorknob Arch, Clear Climb and Pipe Fitter were just some of the obstacles which had no place on the course. The lack of balance obstacles also disappointed me and having long-winded upper-body obstacles in pool 2 was not a wise idea. Also, the series seemed to be lacking in returning competitors - not NWUK 3 level but still not great.
The new heats stage 2/ semi-final format didn't work either. As expected, there were several cases of competitors clearing the course going home, whilst some who fell as early as the floating tiles still advanced. Somehow I don't think it's controversial to believe ninja shows should always be ninja vs the course, and only Ninja vs Ninja in a dedicated TNW/ NvN spin-off.
On the contrary, there were some positives. Starting the course with the Archer Steps in the heats allowed the course to get off to fast start (only for the newly built-up pace to be halted by the second obstacle). Tuning Forks, Catch and Release/ Momentum Shift, Crank It Up, Rail Runner and the Mega Wall for a place in the final were all welcome additions.
Looking forward as always: (mild unspecific spoilers), the finals course this year is disappointing - do not get your hopes up. Stage 1 is far too upper-body intensive - half the obstacles belong in a stage 3. Stage 2 follows a similar trend and while the Wall Flip modification looks interesting it's too long-winded to end a stage 2. Stage 3 is a similar layout to last year but with new obstacles (horrible choice of flying bar replacement). Stage 4 as ever is just a 23m rope climb.
