Hey guys, I'm quite new to Maniac Forums and don't really have access to many shows/information, so I was wondering if you guys could help answer a question that's been at the back of my mind for a little while now. I don't know if it's against site rules to make a thread like this, but I do want the question answered.
I watched a little bit of Australian Ninja Warrior 2 when it came out, mostly the qualifying heats. However, something about Qualifying Heat 3 that I spotted peaked my curiosity a bit, and left me quite confused. On the broadcast, it showed that a few competitors' runs, people who made it to the fourth obstacle, the Rope Swing into Cargo Net (similar to the one from NWUK and ANW6). I remember there being two or three people shown who made it to that fourth obstacle and failed. However, at the end of the night, none of the competitors who made it to Obstacle #4 moved on. This wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that the #19 and #20 spots were taken by two women who failed the Cross Bridge, the obstacle prior. Does anybody know why this occurred? Thanks.

It's been spotted before but I don't know why it happened, probably just another dodgy AuNW rule.

The producers ruled touching the water on the Jump Hang as a disqualification, and by (their) rule anyone who was disqualified was eliminated from the competition.

I remember that happening to Brodie Pawson as well coz he reached the Salmon ladder fast enough to qualify for finals but was then DQ'd for skipping a rung and eliminated entirely. Probably the most stupid rule in AuNW, even with times being counted from when competitors fell, and the Salmon ladder and floating monkey bars being counted as the same obstacle.

I do remember that Brodie Pawson debacle and being absolutely baffled by it, so I guess the idea of being "DQ'd" in AuNW is different than what we consider it in other competitions. Still, seems pretty crazy that everybody who touched the water was eliminated from the competition, making that particular obstacle (Jump Hang) one that eliminated you from the entire competition (maybe the first occurrence of this in SASUKE history), and the fact that other competitors like Ben Cossey failed the other versions of the Jump Hang and still moved on.

(Here's my opinion) When it comes to obstacle courses and that sort of thing, I want the rules to be like this: A fail is a fail and that gives you your result (ie, can't get up wall). A DQ gets you eliminated from competition, BUT I think DQ's should only be for real reasons, ie, going off course, skipping obstacles entirely, climbing on scaffolding for unfair advantage, etc. Skipping rungs on the Salmon Ladder shouldn't count as a DQ imo. Something like using your feet on the walls though, I think that should, and then at the point, you should get removed from the competition. I don't think your clothing touching water on the jump hang should count as a DQ, I'd say that is a fail and that is your result. To be honest, I am not a fan of the jump hang on AuNW. It is more or less 30 seconds of the commentators going "ohhhHHhhHhh he/she is SO closEEEeee, thEy NeeD To WaTCH whaT TheY arE doINg, bE caReful!!1!!!1!!1!1!".
But yeah, I'm ok with you being kicked from the competition for a real DQ, but not for any old cheap excuse.
