I’m beginning my ninja warrior training, and I’m wondering what will be better preparation for Ninja Warrior, bouldering or top rope climbing? If both, what should I start with?
Assuming a year to train for a NW competition, what sort of programming works best? I.e. focus on a particular discipline for a few months, move to the next, and spend the final phase with Ninja specific obstacles. E.g. 2 months of gymnastics, 3 months of climbing, 3 months of bouldering, 1 month of parkour, 3 months of Ninja specific.
Thanks!

Start with bouldering, it gives you good basics and really great grip strength. I think bouldering is also better preparation for Ninja Warrior than top rope climbing. My training is mixture of bouldering and parkour, I think that those two are the best training for Ninja Warrior

Week split is better, for example on Monday bouldering, campusing, pull ups and grip drills, on Tuesday obstacles, parkour and sprint drills, on Wednesday stretching, jogging, swimming etc....

I would recommend starting out with bouldering, too. Lead climbing would be a much better workout than top roping (it's pretty much 100% you holding yourself on the wall, and you'll spend more time on the wall, since you have to clip as you go--so better endurance building), but you'd want to be fairly comfortable with climbing at that point. (And have a reliable belay buddy that you can trust with your life, far moreso even than top roping.)
