NW France promo out today: twitter.com/NinjaWarriorTF1 Looks decent like last year, once again using a batch of obstacles that have never appeared on NW France before (including swing surfer, tilting slider, rolling pin, area 51, giant cubes and the clacker).

For what it's worth: I was complaining to a prominent international ninja about how no country has done this franchise justice lately and he immediately pointed out France is doing well. So maybe we should pay attention to France.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So maybe we should pay attention to France. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I would say based of the most recently aired seasons, Germany is the best of the ANW spin-offs (Europe, Russia, Israel, Egypt, Australia) with France and Spain following close behind and then the UK. All of them have been improving season to season except for UK having invite issues in season 3 and Australia having a bad course layout and silly qualification rules in season 2. Hopefully both Germany and France continue to improve this year.

All of them have been improving season to season except for UK having invite issues in season 3 and Australia having a bad course layout and silly qualification rules in season 2. Hopefully both Germany and France continue to improve this year. I agree with Germany then France coz Germany have really tried with their series and were the first to do 2 stages in the heats so it isn't the same course all episode and France use an almost entirely different set of obstacles each year and have the split course at the start which I think is quite interesting. Tbh, I don't rate Spain that much coz they've just copied Germany pretty much in terms of format and obstacles. As much as NWUK has its many problems (like lack of returning competitors), it did create a style of ANW spin-off that's been copied all over Europe and in Australia too. Plus, Germany copied the UK's series 1 and 2 look and studio layout which shows it has had quite a bit of influence even on the better ANW spin-offs. I reckon if the UK can bring back more returning competitors, which it sounds like they're doing a bit more with series 5, and follow France's lead going for newer, more ambitious obstacles, it can do quite well. Australia's interesting coz they've got the rules and difficulty level all wrong. Counting the salmon ladder and floating monkey bars as one obstacle is just stupid and making their time from when they hit the water makes it truly unfair on people who've gone further on the obstacle. Having the 2nd obstacle as cut-off in the heats is ridiculous and having no-one even get close to attempting stage 3 shows they really over-estimate their contestants. Plus, I don't like the obstacles they use coz they're old and repetitive and making up fake facts to make their contestants sound better really get's on my nerves. But like I've said before, I like how they were ambitious with a full stage three but they should have made stage 2 easier so people could actually try it. Really looking forward to the new series of NW France from what I've seen, it looks like it'll be another good series. Fingers crossed.

I disagree - the UK had a baaaad Series 3 but if we're going by recent then we have to acknowledge the improvement in S4 and the seemingly better invites in S5. While I do believe shows like France and Germany are superior, Ninja Warrior UK still created the look and layout copied by practically every indoor spinoff after, which it deserves credit for. For me there are three tiers:
High tier: Shows like Sweden Series 2, Germany Series 2, Arabia and France that stick to the normal way of doing things, but with a bit more ambition and personal flair.
Mid tier: Shows like Spain, Australia and the UK that aren't ambitious but at least have their own identity.
Low tier: Shows like Austria and Netherlands which are neither ambitious or have their own identity.

Mid tier: Shows like Spain, Australia and the UK that aren't ambitious but at least have their own identity. Low tier: Shows like Austria and Netherlands which are neither ambitious or have their own identity. You are right that S4 of UK was a huge improvement. If I was truly basing it off the most recently aired season, I'd put it ahead of Spain. It's not fair yet to say I'd put it ahead of France until this season airs. As for look and layout, the only thing UK did was install the courses being used by ANW, Sweden, and Turkey indoors by having the 90 degree turns after the Warped Wall. The ATS Team is probably really the one due the credit here. UK really has enough room to do a full Stage 2 and Stage 3. {How they can do this:} Currently they only use half of their obstacle spots for those stages. To switch from the Stage 1 layout to the Stage 2 layout, they have to switch out two obstacles and take down the semi-final tower. If they added an obstacle spot under the announcers' booth, they could start Stage 2 there and that would free up enough space for the Stage 3 Australia had (one more spot than UK). They could also free up enough space by putting an obstacle where the semi-final tower is and shifting the tower in front of the newly added obstacle so that the tower would just have to be removed and not replaced with a walkway. Spain has actually had to get much more creative due to the limited amount of space. They use 3 arenas and have a spiral shaped course in one of the arenas. Australia was way too ambitious this season in terms of obstacles. A perfectly designed qualifier course for me is one where each obstacle takes out a good number of competitors and every obstacle matters. When passing obstacle two is enough to qualify, there is no point in having another four obstacles. {How I think they can improve on this:} If they want to keep the course difficulty at the same level next season, they have to have more people in the qualifiers or only top notch competitors. Inviting more people to compete might not be possible since it's filmed on an island. They can film the qualifiers in different regions like ANW and just have the finals on the island. They should also properly split Stage 2 and Stage 3 if they are doing a full Stage 3. Going straight into a 6 obstacle Stage 3 is not doable after an already tough Stage 2. They also need to change their definition of "furthest the fastest" to something more sensible. I prefer how Germany does it where they rank competitors who fail the same obstacle by how far into it they got first and then by how long it took them to get there. I would never consider Arabia a "high tier" show. Watching 228 uncut runs including 52 Warped Wall fails just to see 8 clears is not entertaining. The only part of Arabia which I really enjoyed was the live band. Since this is the France thread: France has been innovative with the choice of starting obstacle, but they didn't add an obstacle to achieve this. They just put the first two obstacles next to each other making the first qualifier a 5 obstacle course. They also didn't switch the obstacles that much in between qualifiers. I'm really looking for them to improve the courses this season.

Just saying, AuNW won't be filmed on Cockatoo Island next season anyway. I'd just tone down obstacle 2 and up the difficulty a little bit of 3 and 5 to make the fails more spread out. Talking about Arabia, I completely agree with you, everyone just thinks it's really good coz UT did a video on it where he said he liked it. But going back to France, like I said, the course looks good - I posted the big list of obstacles earlier in the thread but it still looks like they will repeat obstacles just not so much. Here's the list again but in a tidier form in which I say where the obstacle goes (please note: I was not at any of the recordings - I don't even live in France but all the obstacles below are from the promo and youtube videos of people filming the course I've seen so they may not be correct and I don't have a clue what's in which heat: {Spoiler} First obstacles: Razor's edge ANW5 balance bridge Snake crossing Broken bridge Cargo crossing Rolling pin Hang glider
2nd obstacles: Rolling log Flying squirrel Spinning bridge Propeller bar
3rd obstacles: Tilting slider Parkour run Swing surfer Double dipper
4th obstacles: The clacker Giant cubes Circuit board
5th: Warped wall
6th (Finals) Spider jump
STAGE 2: Escalator Area 51 Salmon ladder Rolling thunder Chimney climb (I guess)

HEAT 3: Stage 1: Razor's edge/Cargo crossing Spinning bridge Swing surfer Giant cubes Warped Wall Stage 2: Same as heats 1 and 2 (in above post) What?! That's certainly an interesting selection... Is this the Spinning Bridge with only three balls and a larger gap? I saw it in a promo the other day, but can't remember which for. Thanks for the list, too
