Darvish is a decent competitor in SASUKE, but he would suck in ANW

He's the only competitor to clear the first stage in SASUKE 35, that did not have an over 50% clear rate of the first stage. (If my math was correct.)

First Stage Clear Rate
Masashi Hioki - 60% Keitaro Yamamoto - 75% Shunsuke Nagasaki - 85% Kenji Darvish - 43% Jun Sato - 88% Drew Drechsel - 86% Tomohiro Kawaguchi - 55% Yusuke Morimoto - 64%
Yes Wiin you are right about Darvish being the only competitor to clear SASUKE 35 First Stage with under a 50% clear rate for the First Stage

I despise him, if he fails the very first jump of Stage 1 in T36 I would be the happiest person on Earth. But why? Two words: OVER SATURATION. I get that it's for ratings and publicity and all that, but why him? Also the facepaint is stupid lol. (My favorite fail ever is him in 33 on the Lumberjack climb, I miss that obstacle.) So you hate someone because a TV show focuses more on him than your favorite competitors? Seems fair. I understand wanting to see more of your favorites and not being a fan of paid competitors, but putting enough energy to hate them for no reason, not so much

He's good, I won't deny that, but he just gets too much airtime IMO.

Would you rather have him shown or SASUKE get even lower ratings? They could try and get less obnoxious celeb competitors, but if he's one of the reasons that SASUKE isn't dead, I'll (try to) tolerate him being around.

As I said previously, Golden Bomber is HUGE in Japan (take it from someone like me who lives here). Darvish does not need to waste his time appearing on a show like Sasuke, but he does it anyway because he seems to genuinely enjoy competing. Yeah, Inui/TBS abuse the fact that they have celebs there and give them a lot of focus, but that's to be expected.
And at least it's not like when that guy from Exile competed back in the shin-era. He was shoved down everyone's throats, failed the half pipe attack, and never returned to the show. Darvish competes consistently every year, and always puts in decent to great performances.
Sad that Ryo isn't shown more? How about he passes stage 1 first. Darvish is not undeserving of the attention of he gets.

now i think about it, i think darvish's situation shouldn't come as a surprise. I see it as a sort of progression in the performance of celebrity competitors. we had akira omori in the early days, kinnikun who made it pretty deep into stage 1, then hiromichi sato and wakky finally breaking through stage 1. and now Darvish and ABC-Z. Darvish took fewer tries than hiromichi and wakky to get through stage 1 and we can argue he's been more consistent in his performance than some of them. I think we've reached the point where the performances of darvish, takeru and abc-z definitely warrant the screen time. If that johnny's jr guy keeps improving and makes it further I'm fine with him getting screentime too.

I'm honestly....attracted to Darvish's looks without the face paint....LOL I mean....come on, a guy like this beat the first stage....that's attractive to me. In all seriousness though, I like Darvish, and his Sasuke appearances have actually gotten me to listen to Golden Bomber's songs, even though I'm not a huge fan of that type of music. Regardless, I hope he can break his stage 2 jinx and make it to stage 3 eventually.

Not gonna lie, he looks pretty good. I like Darvish quite a bit for a simple reason: passion. You can tell he's not just running the course because of celebrity endorsement, or for the money, or contractual obligations. If Golden Bomber were to explode tomorrow, he'd still apply to be on Sasuke 36 because he loves competing in Sasuke. He's also a great sportsman. I recall plenty of times where he cheered on fellow competitors when they were doing good, or sympathizing when they didn't. That's something that's always nice to see.

I can hold it against the Sasuke producers, but can't blame him for it. And to be honest, he's no longer a joke competitor (or whatever we're supposed to call them these days) by any means now. He obviously puts in a fair amount of training. I suppose he's kind of in the "Kacy of Japan" position currently as they milk him for all he's worth for ratings.

Darvish was never a "joke competitor" -- he didn't get far on his first try, but he more than made up for it the rest of his attempts (the TIE Fighter mishap aside considering how wet it was that tournament). I'm not comparing him talent-wise, but even Nagano failed Stage 1 his first two tries.

"if Golden Bomber were to explode" Do you mean in terms of popularity? Because Golden Bomber is really really popular here.

Probably in the minority here, but personally I think he adds to Sasuke (and now that the all-stars are on their last legs, surely thats a good thing?). Granted, he does get a lot of screen time, but it would be the same for any celeb competitor in any country. One thing that I've wanted to know for a while though - anyone know what make his sunglasses were (I know, wearing them at night etc), but theyre awesome and I want a pair
