I just thought about this, and all finalists from SASUKE 24 have retired or threatened to retire. (Yoshiyuki Okuyama and Koji Hashimoto retired in SASUKE 29, Lee En-Chih retired in SASUKE 30, Yuuji Urushihara threatened to retire in SASUKE 34 and Kenji Takahashi retired in SASUKE 35.).

In the fluffpiece that they gave him he announced that SASUKE 35 would be his last one.

Kenji 'Kong' Takahashi has indeed retired. Given SASUKE history it may not stick, but this seemed pretty final. At least he was able to choose when to leave, and un-digested at that. Went back to the drawing board to do a little tribute, I'll post these in Fan Media once it's no longer a spoiler: Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedKenji in SASUKE 16 and SASUKE 24.

Love the drawings. ♥ And yeah he's done. He's had a great run and he's a SUPER awesome person in person. He'll probably go the Nagano route where he is there as a cheerleader or wherever TBS puts him. He's still very much friends with everyone.

Kenji Takahashi was, is and will always be a monster. If only his SASUKE 24 run wasn't disturbed due to technical reasons, he'd be a SASUKE legend. His run in the previous tournament was pretty dramatic and when you see Takahashi gas out in Stage 2, you start to understand that his body may not deliver as much as it did in the past. He has an one-man delivery company to take care of as well and I'm pretty sure that this alone tears him to pieces nowadays. I wish him to see in the SASUKE paddock in the next tournaments and he's such a gentle and kind person. Most of the time he went under the radar, but he gave us some absolutely outstanding performances.

I've never been one to pick favorites, but of course Nagano is my all time favorite competitor. However, little known fact about me: Kongu is absolutely my 2nd favorite ever. Sucks to see him retire, but he's been doing this for almost 20 years so it makes sense.

I'm glad that Kenji at least retired in grace in the same vein as Nagano, without having to taint his legacy knowing that his days are numbered. I don't think I could bear to see him go the Yamada route.

I was talking about this during the stream, but Kenji Takahashi was one of the greats. He and Shunsuke were part of a small group who competed in 2 completely different eras of Sasuke and did consistently well in both. Had Kongu not taken a break, he would have been an All Star. Truly one of the greats.
