Perhaps a wee bit redundant as we aren't expecting massive changes on the whole, but a picture has been released of some kind of new obstacle in testing:
The tweet reads (in bad google translate): Today, we are simulating a new area of "sasuke2018" in the Sacred Green Mountain. This new area is pretty harsh! It is likely to become an area of hell to call the eventful. #SASUKE2018
What do you reckon this is? My first instinct was either first stage end obstacle (though it looks a bit tall, first stage end is generally closer to the ground??) or perhaps something in the second stage, maybe a new opener? Frankly, I haven't got a clue!
EDIT:
Found an Inui tweet which implies this might belong in 3rd stage, but it's tenuous:
Junk translation:
Yesterday, the bib decision meeting.
A new attempt. Today, Green Mountain. New area, third time simulation. Amazement imminent.

Intriguing! Yeah I have no guess to what it will be either. Should be nice seeing a completely new obstacle added for the first time in a few tournaments!
Although I’m having trouble being optimistic about more obstacles being added this time around since he’s making a big deal about this one new “zone”

Judging the obvious frame I think it has to be either a First Stage closer or something weird on the Third, but I doubt it's on the Third Stage since that is the last stage that needs something hard added to it. Would be cool to have an exhilarating end to the First Stage again since after the Warped Wall it's pretty much nothing interesting instead of something tricky like the Circle Slider or Slider Jump or Flying Chute
You know to me it almost looks like the salmon ladder as the final obstacle of S.1 but I doubt H&S would be cool enough to let that happen so idk... it's probably something nobody is gonna guess

I think it's the starting line. I considered that, but it looks very closed off and built-up to be the start. Not to mention the curvy bits up top look important, and I doubt they'd do an elevated starting obstacle, the set-up for 100 people would be a headache. I agree that it would be best if it were a late Stage 1 obstacle as that is the area which has had the least renovation, though I personally hope Lumberjack climb stays a while yet. As to the nature of the obstacle, I have no solid ideas. It looks like it could be a sliding obstacle, and some on twitter were expressing they hoped it wasn't the return of the flying chute!

This is the perfect example of how present-day Sasuke has gotten it wrong. They spend all budget on the grandeur (changing the mats andthe starting line, getting celebrities to compete) and none on actually changing the obstacles. Which is the part that matters most to the majority of the people watching.
Build some new stuff, pleeeeasse!!

I'm pretty certain we are getting a new obstacle, even if that is a picture of the start line set-up (and I'm not convinced it is, it's too tall and wraps around too much).
The wording of the tweet is unambiguous, so the translation would have to be amazingly off if nothing is actually changing.

This is the perfect example of how present-day Sasuke has gotten it wrong. They spend all budget on the grandeur (changing the mats andthe starting line, getting celebrities to compete) and none on actually changing the obstacles. Which is the part that matters most to the majority of the people watching. Build some new stuff, pleeeeasse! - Sasuke has *always had various celebs and entertainers and professional athletes paid for their time*. There has not been a single tournament where at least one person wasn't paid to be there. The starting line has always been redesigned every so often as well. Never mind scapegoating something line changing the colors on mats. - Who is this "majority of the people watching" just based on the obstacles? On here? Because, and this has always been said, unless you are watching live on a TV in Japan, your view counts for 0. Sasuke 7, the show's highest rated, had 3 obstacles either debut or be modified. By your logic, 26% of the viewing audience watched Sasuke 7 because of the Chain Reaction, the Brick Climb and the Spider Walk. Nothing else changed that tournament. Now, that's a significant overhaul of Stage 2. But there was a 4% increase from the previous tournament because of that? By the same token, Sauske 17, a significant course overhaul, only moved the needle 0.2% forward. Sasuke 25, another significant overhaul, got the show the lowest ratings ever. First time the show went under 10%. - I know people around here constantly slag on the show in the Rising era for not enough course progression. It's mostly been modified/returning obstacles with sprinklings of new obstacles. Easy to compare negatively to ANW who did what Sasuke used to do and just slap a concept on the course for a tournament before removing it. Sasuke 34 was guilty of this with only modifying two obstacles. Which isn't the first time something like that happened, but it did happen. But the Second Stage is notorious for long-lasting obstacles; only now are people bothered by it. The Third Stage usually changes in response to significant progress or to increase the chance of significant progress (like in 27). 35 may tie the record for longest drought without a Final Stage. So if there is a new obstacle, and it ends up in Stage 3 to increase the difficulty, that's a rarity given only two people have beaten the Cliffhanger. We all want to see new obstacles when we can get them, but let's not suddenly start having selectively memory or revisionist history just because a tv show doesn't have new toys to play with.

Fair enough, although I feel like half of the competitors are celebrities now. And they're the only people really focused-on. I know it's not new, but it's still the truth! 32, 33 and 34 all changed mat colors. This is more than it was when they only did it after a Kanzenseiha.
To be fair, I never said my view counted. What I will add is that, if half of the people on here feel like the course has gotten stale, it's not a stretch to say that some people who live in Japan also think the course is not modified enough. Plus, I'm not saying that point-blank adding new obstacles determines ratings - just having good and varied obstacles. A lot of the obstacles on this course aren't that amazing so this is also quite important to ratings.

I think calling "half of the competitors" celebrities or saying "they're the only ones focused on" is a bit of a hyperbole. Having Takeru/Darvish centred on has been a feature of the last couple, but at least they've done decently to halfway deserve that focus. And people like Yuuji/Morimoto/Takeda still got focus, although I agree that many less central competitors like Shunsuke, Ryo, Kenji etc... got more consistent coverage.

They haven't the budget or support to make big changes, and besides, no-one has even cleared this yet! It's the one part of the course they have no justification to touch (unless it does indeed prove to be impossible...)

I honestly don't think SASUKE needs Major changes to the course for a while. I know another reason the BUDGET.
