How much extra weight can you still pull-up and chin-up with? I want to know who's stronger. About the technique (the left arm moving thing), that's the only way I can make the jump. When I first built my replica, I tried for a few days to just swing and jump but I couldn't even get close. Then I watched Nagano in Sasuke 21 and basically stole his technique. Now I can make it with almost no momentum. Seriously, I can literally THROW myself to the ledge and make it. Iz fun.

I'm not sure about the max pull-up weight. The other day I was doing some lat-pull-downs on the machine with the pulleys. I started at 180lbs and could do that, but I didn't try higher to find my max. My max bench is about 185 (or at least that's the most I've tried doing).
I don't really have any basis for saying I'm stronger than you. Like I said it's just a guess, probably shouldn't have said it, so sorry (though I don't think you actually were offended).
Yeah I want to get to where I can just sail across the gap like nothing, like the guy in that muscle park time attack! (I f***ing swear, I don't know how the f*** that f***er did that, unless he was using sticky spray or they cleaned the rail for him, or both!)

Hell no, man. I'm not offended. I do want to know, though. I think the highest I've gone on the lat pull-downs was 200 or 210 lbs. This is a bad way to judge our strength, though, since in my gym alone there are two different kinds of lat pull-downs. On the one I use, I can use 180, 190, 200, etc. without too much trouble. On the other kind, I only use around 120 lbs and it kills me. I think the pulleys are set up differently. That's why I figured weighted pull-ups and chin-ups would be a better comparison. My best bench press was a pathetic 170 lbs. In my defense, though, I've only benched for a short amount of time and soon after starting, I decided to cut back on it since it's a rather useless exercise in terms of relativity to Ninja Warrior. I mean, honestly, how many times do you do a push-up motion on the course? Not many. Do you think that guy just had such good grip the slime didn't phase him?

Well I can think of 2 things bench press can help with. There's the Jumping spider, I did a lousy jump and my feet almost slid out on the landing. I saved myself with my arms, I pushed out pretty hard. That is triceps, which the bench press works. Also when you're hopping over those 4' steps they throw in, having a strong push can help you get over a little faster. But yeah, it isn't the most critical exercise as far as Sasuke is concerned.
And 170's not pathetic at all if your body weight is 155. I think anyone who can press more than their own weight is in pretty good shape.
Oh and NO! No f**king way could someone do that, I don't care if you're f**king Dan Osman! The rail is so slippery it was a challenge just to get to the end of the first board (which is normally nothing for me). I don't think it's possible for a human to be strong enough that they wouldn't struggle at least a little for grip.
To illustrate my point, next time you're in the shower squeeze the bar of soap as hard as you can. It will shoot out of your hand! Unless you're strong enough to just crush the soap, then it won't slip. So I say unless that guy was so strong that he was digging his fingers into the wood and leaving dents in the cliffhanger he had to have been doing it under different conditions than when I tried it. Also remember the video of Nagano and Takeda falling off the first rail!

That guy looks a lot like Urushihara, lol, but I don't believe it is. Another one: Must help to live close to Muscle Park and not mind spending a bit of money on getting it right. The UNCLI guys sail through it like it's nothing. I think Nagano and Takeda have failed the first gap at Muscle Park... (And you already mentioned that. Sorry, missed that, lol. I think Nagano missed the jump on his first try, same as you and Mark.)

Looking at both those videos, it looks like not only are they slide theirs fingers forward with each one and are squeezing with their thumb, it also seems they reach around the top of angled ledge. Even the park demonstrator has to reach around the top. www.majhost.com/gallery/manaleader/Avatar9/muscleparkshincliffhanger1.jpgAnd about the failed time attack, notice how he struggles to hold onto the angled rail, that proves your point right there, that's this guy. Who even clears a cliffhanger with a super tiny ledge You probably saw him there at Sasuke 22 from the sidelines, he's in the unlimited cliffers group (Urushihara Yuuji is in that too). His name is Tomino Keita. You can see that he's there in the sidelines. BTW, something I've been wondering, You said that you heard the beeps and the pop. Do they also play the music too? Like if it's someones turn to they play their theme or when someone passes a stage do they play Yagyu-Gaiden over the speakers?

I don't recall them playing any music, just timer sounds. Oh and you can hear the announcer screaming at you in Japanese during your run!

No music? Darn... that would be really cool Nonetheless, I love the announcer... really cool spur-of-the-moment jokes.

Well if I ever get to Sasuke, I'll be there with MP3 player and happy to play Yagyu-Gaiden when someone clears and Last Battle when it's Nagano's run.

I doubt they allow electronic devices while you're there. You know anything about this David?

David said a few times about having his own MP3 player there. I was listening to music from my mp3 player in my headphones while chalking up my hands and the insides of my arms with climbing chalk I had brought with me. First it was "Breed" by Nirvana, then about 2 min before my run the track changed to "Pure Imagination" from the old school Gene Wilder Willy Wonka soundtrack. (yes I have this im my MP3 player, you got a problem? haha) I almost changed it, but then I was like "ahhh this is relaxing". So as I was saying, I finish putting on my shoes, take my headphones off

I was referring to fans not competitors If I'm ever at Sasuke. I better be a competitor. That'd kind of be how I get there...

If I may be so bold as to ask a few questions myself. Not related directly to the run, since you already went through that so well. - Were you aware that Hanno had passed (since he went right before you it seemed)? And that he was the first to pass? If so, did that give you any confidence or affect you in any way? - When you gave your mini-interview (regarding the cardio and not enough time), was there only one take, or did you have to repeat it? Sorry if that's a silly question, but when I was on a reality TV show and the crew filmed reaction shots, they always wanted to do a 2nd take in case the first take didn't turn out so well. It probably works differently on game shows though. - Did you watch Urushihara attempt the final stage? If so, at what point did you realise he wasn't going to win? Oh, and this isn't a question (nor is it an attempt to emulate Rider's sick sense of humour), but I don't think Dan Osman, in his current condition, could do the cliffhanger. EDIT number 2: BTW, I appreciate you giving us so much info already, this isn't a "here are some questions, answer them!" post. Thanks for being so responsive. So yeah, feel free to completely ignore this post and do something useful instead

Lol, look at us all bombarding David with questions... Im just glad he's answered them so far Nonetheless, I have a couple easy ones (If I may...): Do you know how long the tournament ran? I mean, what time did they start? How long until they finished with Stage 1, Stage 2, etc... And any guess on when they finished it all? Also, I've always wondered if they sell any T-Shirts and/or programs there. I've always hoped that someone I could communicate with would bring me back one if I gave them the money for it... I'd friggin post it on my wall

I've got some questions too.
If you watched, how did the people after your run and before Yuuji, the second guy to pass stage? Just wondering.
Did you meet Lee Yen Chee and Okuyama? If you did, what were they like?

If so, did that give you any confidence or affect you in any way? It wasn't just seeming, Kanno was 49 and David was 50 Well you better not be ripping me off! XD I've got some questions too. If you watched, how did the people after your run and before Yuuji, the second guy to pass stage? Just wondering. Did you meet Lee Yen Chee and Okuyama? If you did, what were they like? He said he gave tips for the cliffhanger to Lee so I would assume that would mean he did meet him XD

- Were you aware that Hanno had passed (since he went right before you it seemed)? And that he was the first to pass? If so, did that give you any confidence or affect you in any way? D: Yes I believe I was aware, though I don't know if it really registered? I was really in my own world at that point, just blocking out all distractions and focusing on what i was about to do, making sure I wasn't forgetting any critical things like tying my shoes! So I don't think it affected me at all. D: TBS seems to get their shots the first time and hope it looked good, so for that perticular one it was one shot, very spontaneous, I was still out of breath! For most of the G4 stuff they would ask me to repeat things a few times generally. - Did you watch Urushihara attempt the final stage? If so, at what point did you realise he wasn't going to win? D: Well after watching the testers run it and get nowhere and assuming he had not practiced a rope ladder(since the new final stage was secret) I didn't really expect him to pass. I don't think there was ever a moment when I really thought he was going to make it and as soon as he hit the rope I could tell he was going way too slow. But he did get close! -Oh, and this isn't a question (nor is it an attempt to emulate Rider's sick sense of humour), but I don't think Dan Osman, in his current condition, could do the cliffhanger. D: Hahahaha! no way Das Osman's ghost would own sasuke! -Do you know how long the tournament ran? I mean, what time did they start? How long until they finished with Stage 1, Stage 2, etc... And any guess on when they finished it all? D: It started at like 10 or 11am and ended about 12:30am. I was told that it can sometimes run until 4am! -I've always wondered if they sell any T-Shirts and/or programs there. I've always hoped that someone I could communicate with would bring me back one if I gave them the money for it... I'd friggin post it on my wall D: Yeah they have a little souvenir table set up with shirt n stuff, I just kinda forgot to get one. The shirts are about $22 if I remember correctly? -If you watched, how did the people after your run and before Yuuji, the second guy to pass stage? Just wondering. D: Sorry I wasn't paying that close attention at that time. -Did you meet Lee Yen Chee and Okuyama? If you did, what were they like? D: Lee Yen Chi actually rode there and back on the G4 bus! So yes I met him. We actually made plans to go to muscle park the next day and try to nail the cliffhanger (I had plans to bring sticky spray for us both to use) but it didn't end up working with both our schedules and everything. Lee was very friendly and cheerful (even after falling in the water!) Also he gave me and some of the other Americans a gift box of Taiwanese tea!

Thanks for all the information David.
If those are the same shirts that they've been selling for the past few SASUKEs, they are 2500 yen each. People can buy them at Muscle Park. I think someone on the G4 board asked if they could order them via email - they go them but I don't remember the process.
Makes sense that Lee would be grouped together with the G4 people as he's essentially the JET version of the ANC winners.
