I didn't see this mentioned at all in the main thread, but I wanted to pay my respects to what was unquestionably the most painful failure this season, and probably one of the most painful ever.
#48 Watanabe Yosuke.
For those who didn't catch what happened, he is one of Yamada's Black Tigers. When he reached the Fishbone, he asked for timing help, and Yamada told him to go at the completely wrong time, which directly led to his failure. Tomo and Ryo then came up and explained to Yamada that he had screwed over his own teammate.
RIP Watanabe Yosuke. Please do not listen to Yamada next year.

My number 1 is Shingo. I thought he'd nail it this time, but he botched the jump (at least he touched the bar). Also, I think Ryo's officially given up.
Here are a few worth mentioning though:
Wataru Mori, Quad Steps *That came out of nowhere.
Kenji Takahashi and Yuuji Urushihara, Reverse Conveyor *I was hoping they'd get to the third, but I'm glad they got past the first. Darvish I wasn't too surprised about because I knew he was going to time out anyway Conveyor or Walls.
Toshihiro Takeda, Salmon Ladder Kudari *When the bar got uber crooked I knew he was f***ed.
Shunsuke Nagasaki, Spider Walk *That was a shocker, possibly my #1 shocker of the tournament. I thought he'd get back to the third stage.

Yeah Shingo for me too. I will forever call it one hand further.

Drew when he failed the Ultra Crazy Cliffhanger for the second time. I really want to see him attempt the vertical limit tri, the pipe slider.and even the final stage. Honorable Mention: Shingo's first stage fail.

Wataru Mori in all honesty that was a complete mess up.

Nagasaki looked so shocked, I really think he's overlooked. Everyone knows he great but I think he could get to the VL

Nagasaki, seriously. What was that? That was just painful to see, and embarrassing. Not the most painful though. Mori's fail on the steps, completely ironic. Painful for the wife, but not too painful either.
It's a tie between Kenji's and Yuuji's Reverse Conveyor fails, and Shingo's unfortunate fail on the Double Pendulum. Everyone had the same idea for all three people, they'd get farther and make a big comeback. Everyone hoped Shingo got past the Double Pendulum and clearing the 1st STAGE, and Kenji and Yuuji to reaching the 3rd STAGE. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. It's hard to decide between each run on the most painful to watch. Just leaving it there.

Ryo’s total whiff on the pendulum was bad, personally drew was the worst one though. This one wasn’t because of timing, he just couldn’t hold on. It’ll be interesting to see if he ever gets by it again

He lost all of his momentum on that. Timing was not the issue.

The 2 biggest derps, Mori Wataru and Nagasaki Shunsuke for the way they failed on obstacles they shouldn't have failed. Honorable mentions go to the salesman for Senoh (If you're not familiar, search this catalog for the AT0630 Mini Trampoline and you'll learn their significance) who failed the jump to the Double Pendulum and the guy who build a Fishbone replica and still failed it, so both of them had one obstacle they should have been completely prepared for more than anyone else, aaaand they still mess them up

I think that Wataru Mori was the worst because of failing the first obstacle and getting everybody especially his wife in a billion depressions.
I am also disappointed with Matachi failing the First Stage for the fourth time in a row and whether or not he will consider retiring.
Also Shingo Yamamoto failed the same obstacle for the third time in a row and might now be at risk of retiring probably because of old age.
Lastly, Shunsuke's younger brother Takamasa should have cleared the First Stage and it's pretty bad that they didn't show his run in full broadcast.

Yuuji, easily for me. They really built him up as a big comeback and I'll be damned if people are still going to claim he doesn't care anymore. Everyone was so happy for him when he passed stage 1, it was crushing, especially because I so badly want to see him on Stage 3.

Shingo's fail annoyed me to be honest, mainly because I saw it coming.

Shingo was painful for me as well, this is definitely his longest run failing on the same obstacle in consecutive tournaments, and I still believe based on 29/30 he could still scrape a Stage 2 clear if he had a really good day. Takeda getting screwed on the Salmon ladder was bad too, he could have cleared it this time without that double rung slip.
Most painful could have been Shunsuke but he got digested so hard all the impact was lost. Wataru Mori was more of a straight WTF.
The award has to go to Kong for me, the fact he straight-up failed the conveyor belt rather than timing out is really shocking. Would have been nice to again see his run in full (I'm guessing the Backstream must have somehow wrecked him in this particular tournament, even though he cleared 29's outrageous one), but he did get both a fluff piece and a full Stage 1 run, so TBS shafted him way less than usual.

Well 29 didn't have a conveyor belt right after. IMO wet conveyor belt is harder than wet wall lift. Also with Shun, even with the digest it shocked me (especially since they were playing the digest clear music when it happened). Also, digest clear music with fails? I think that's a first.
