I'm told Zero in Japan is used as the beginning of everything. We have a different connotation to zero in the USA. I learned that lesson with the short lived hotel that Nagano's company had. Remember "Hotel ZeroCity"?

It's basically a navi episode but much smaller and totally in Japanese...
Edit: They are working on an English version.

First part of the First Round of competitors just went up. It should be noted that the name of the YouTube channel was changed to "KuroOvi channel jp". Sounds like they're making an English language YouTube channel?

Are they actually going to show every single run, 5 at a time? That's crazy.
I seriously wonder how they expect to turn a profit on this though...

Seeing on their site that they are also doing other events I.E. 9hoops and that there are cash prizes, I honestly haven't a clue. Maybe they hope to sell the footage to foreign networks a.la Takeshi's Castle?

See, when I was watching the initial test run videos in the youtube space, I thought that was the level of production we would get. Something like that would be cheap to produce and getting sponsors and posting to youtube would at least allow them to possible break even. I was really surprised when I got to the set though. The production was crazy, and the prize money was as well. If he hopes to recoup that money solely from youtube, that's just not even remotely going to happen. Maybe this first go around is just advertisement so he can shop the idea out to a network? I honestly have no idea. And I thought they'd have sponsors... but it doesn't seem like there is a sponsor presence in these youtube videos at al? Even at the course itself I could barely tell they had sponsors. I only knew because of the logos on some of the staff's outfits, and even though I'm not 100% on the logistics behind that.

Based on the <100 total subscribers between both channels it seems to be very indie too. Honestly for all we know Higuchi could just be paying for it all himself. Also curious what they mean by 'Mass Media' in the comments

I would concur that this is basically an elaborate portfolio. Besides.. those of us who know how Higuchi works.. he's all about flash and he puts his own money into things.. this is also why M9 was horrendously in debt and they filed for bankruptcy.. so I'm not at all surprised he's splurging on the production. The payoff could be getting new locations and he doesn't have to pay for that - meaning the sponsors would do trade deals for locations, etc. for future ventures. Basically breaking even for the hopes of making it big.

They had a LOT of people on staff, tons of equipment, prize money, venues to rent out, the shuttle bus system... etc.

Am I the only one confused by the 'don't touch the caution tape' rule?
It seems to come and go entirely at random, especially on the fallen ladder bridge where people keep grabbing it with no repercussions and in the 4th episode the commentator even said it was a legit strategy to sort of cling across it rather than balancing?
