No, before you leave, I think this is actually true. And it's actually people who take the competition seriously by training seriously for it. ABCZ guy aka Tsukada Ryoichi. He's actually a real famous Japanese idol. (Trains with Yuji if I'm not mistaken, shown in sasuke 31.) His peformances in sasuke so far... sasukepedia.wikia.com/wiki/Tsukada_RyoichiDarvish is also a famous drummer in Japan... And in 33 we saw the emergence of another actor, Mori Wataru. TBS can market them, along with a couple other idols that are pretty handsome, as a group of celebs that train seriously for sasuke(clear at least the 1st stage). Sure fire way to get fangirls to tune in for the show to see how their idol does, along with the traditional group of serious competitors. What do you think?

They already use them and it hasn't worked. Part of the charm of Sasuke was a mix of people including all types of backgrounds. That has been that way for years. In the past they used to be able to afford really big people but not anymore. Now they get maybe 1-2 in exchange for dominant airtime. We all know how that is going. Most people who want to see them watch for the 5 seconds they are on screen long enough to fall in the water in the first obstacle - especially the women. Lost in the process is the charm of the show of anyone being able to do well on the show. Most in Japan know that and abandoned the show a long time ago when Monster 9 went down. It's obvious during the Rising era all they want is the ratings but failed to realize that the show is not supposed to be a celebrity show. Dozens of those types of shows already exist with far more famous people. This is why the ratings suck as hard as they do now.
As for Darvish and Tsukada.. he's been around for several tournaments and the ratings have not risen., Mori is a veteran of the show and has been for almost 10 years. We know their record - it's all we do here in SMF.
TLDR: It has been this way and it hasn't worked. Wrong market, wrong time, no budget.

Mori had an 8 year break in between tourneys, you can't really count that imo. As for Tsukada... he's not been marketed enough, non-Jpop fans of sasuke probably see him as "Yuji's friend who trains with him". in the past celebs that were actually good would pull the ratings up like mad, eg: Kosugi bros. I guess the reason why Sasuke sucks is not because of the oversaturation of celebs, but the fact that the celebs SUCK on the course. If you get just a couple more serious competitors that are celebs, including a female like Rie Komiya in the mix, I think there's a huge possibility the ratings will climb.

I hate to break it to you but they've been doing that this whole time and it doesn't help, the people who tune in just to see those celebrities usually tune out after said person goes out. Sasuke 26 had Naoto from EXILE and Sasuke 32 had Futamura Haruka from SKE48 (one of the many AKB48 offshoot groups) and EXILE and AKB48 are much bigger than Golden Bomber and A.B.C-Z are and guess what? They didn't do anything significant for the ratings. Also just a technicality, you referred to Darvish Kenji as a drummer, he's with Golden Bomber which is an "air band", as in the singer is the only one who does anything during the performance and the other people pretend to play instruments so he's more of a "drummer" than a drummer. They also do a lot of performances and stuff so I wouldn't say they do nothing but actually playing the music during them? no

The problem is that the celebs suck on the course. If someone from AKB48 or Baby Metal makes it to even the Warped Wall, it's gonna garner a lot more attention that just a cute wipeout on the rolling hill. the problem is that ever since kane, no celeb has actually gone far on the course.and as you said, celebs wipe out early, so they tune out. if the celeb is still in the 2nd stage, they're gonna stay for at least till the last hour. That's what I'm trying to say here, get GOOD celebs on the course, not more.

No.
Sasuke should, quite honestly, aim for ANW-style formatting (without the fluffpieces lol). I could be wrong, but a more sports-oriented program than current may do better than current Sasuke. The whole sports variety thing in Japan is 3 decades old.

I'll go with meh, mostly because I don't care anymore. I've given up on them, so I'm just watching the show for the results and nothing else.

Kane, on top of his status, was naturally athletic enough to do more than just Sasuke. He was a mainstay in the world of Banzuke and especially Sportsman up until he left for good. He wasn't just a sub-plot arguably given more time than should receive. I like Darvish and Tsukada, I like the celebs who take it relatively seriously and seek to train. It's why I was so happy when Mori came back last year and his Stage 1 clear was a highlight for me in 33. He's similar to Kane in that regard of being in more of these athletic contests. Mori getting to the 2nd-to-last obstacle in Stage 2 is the best a celeb of some sort has done in some time now. And even then the most prominent shot during his brief fluff piece was him attempting Monster Box in Sports Danshi. He was even labeled during the piece as an "Athlete" explicitly in English.
But none of them have the draw that Kane gets. Darvish, Tsukada and Mori are stars who compete in Sasuke. Kane was the star of Sasuke at one point.

On the male side you had Naoto from Exile on there and they STILL didn't get the ratings. No one is watching the show in Japan for the celebs.. it's bad enough the fans are tired of the focus of the show being on them in the first place now you want more of them? They are not (especially the girls) going to do well in this show. Kane was special and that was 15 years ago.

I agree with the quality over quantity of celebs argument. The overall start-to-finish celeb airtime would be longer if there were 1 or 2 Stage 2 and beyond hopefuls than it would be if there were 50 celebs with no Stage 1 potential.

Kane was special and that was 15 years ago. I remember when Naoto competed, and we were all pleasantly surprised he got to the Half-Pipe Attack -- I thought it was a shame he never tried again because I think he could have probably cleared with a decent amount of training but ironically EXILE was too big for them (then again, Mandy Sekiguchi dominates SpoDan, so) At some point, Kane went from the standards for a celebrity on the course to being the exception to the rule.

They've had incredibly big stars on Sasuke. Golden Bomber is huge. Exil is even bigger. AKB's off-shoots are incredibly popular. Once you go above that level of popularity you're literally hitting the top of the top when it comes to Japan's celebs. What do you want from them? Perfume? Momoclo? Arashi? I think they've gone about as high as they can go in terms of celebs. Those people wouldn't do well anyway, and their fans would tune out once they failed.
Kane was popular because he was not only a star, but one of the best competitors on the course during his time, arguably the best around when he left.

Yes, but they only need 2 maybe 3 at the most. We don't expect them to clear stage 1 but we do expect them to bring in a few views from people that would not normally watch the show. With only 2 celebs, it doesn't take up much room from the other competitors. Trust me, I really don't want celebs in it. I want to see the average Joe that trains for this do great! That's the spirit of the show but we do have to realize it's a TV show. So views matter.

There are at least 10 celebs every single tournament.. there are far bigger issues going on over there.

My problem with the celebs is the idiotic amount of screen time they get (before and after their runs). It leaves virtually no time to see the people we want to see. As far as them competing I'm not against that. It's the ridiculous intros and long interviews that irk me.
