Well from what I gathered asking around right after he won he did the handstand.. motioned to his .. uhmm.. junk.. then the time.. then said something to the camera while flipping the bird? At least that's what they saw or inferred. Needless to say it didn't go over so well. LOL Hell if this was ANW he would have been shown with Matt/Akbar screaming "the gauntlet has been thrown!".. in Japan.. you aren't supposed to be so outwardly cocky and rude. He's definitely more western mentality. I guess the 5 years in England brought that out of him.. then again. he was supposedly like this back when he was in Japan for the Trials in 21.. maybe the crowd he hangs with? So he pretty much did... this?

Well there have been some pretty energetic / spirited celebrations in the rising era. Asa comes to mind when it comes to standing on the rails (every single time he clears) and flinging the elbow pads off the platform (kong and tomo). But I guess the difference is the message and attitude in those celebrations? Theirs was more of excitement / emotion as opposed to jun's being a show of cockiness? Just saying that energetic / "over the top" (relatively speaking) celebrations are not something new but jun probably took it too far?

Jun has a history of being hostile to others so that's probably why he was digested so badly last year. TBH though I know they KNOW who he is.. did they think he wouldn't? I'm sure they are regretting their decision. Oh well. But yeah there have been many celebrations.. even shows of omg yes! (Asa pointing to the time and screaming as a friendly rivalry with Drew that year). They know Drew and they openly worship him! LOL But Jun.. it's different. It was hostile.

Wow from what it sounds like Jun is on pace to achieve a Yamada-like level of notoriety. If that is true then TBS obviously is making the right move to prevent a similar situation from happening. At least for what the general audience sees. If anything it's protecting Jun from becoming the (negative) talk of the town.

There's a difference between passionate celebration like Asa does and a uhhhm... offensive celebration like Jun did. It's quite different between yelling and standing on the rails as opposed to doing the ol' DX/Bullet Club "Suck It" motion and flipping off the camera (all after handstanding on the rails)

And I thought Jun was a NICE guy. Whelp this reminds me of so many things I don't want to remember. I'm just happy that Nagano did a stand up awesome job at commentating but I still loved the fact he came down to see his worker, Takeda, and Shingo run the course. Best friends even now. ^_^

I'm not sure where they got Jun being a nice guy. There's never been any real coverage on him even when he originally qualified. I'm neutral towards him given I never had any connection with him. He just seems like a normal cocky parkour guys. Most of the parkour people his age I know are cocky beyond belief - especially the westerners. So it's not at all surprising to see him act that way since that's pretty much ANW in a nutshell which is why I cringe seeing the open displays of cockiness on the American side. He didn't go out of his way to get in people's business and stayed in his own little bubble in Sasuke the time I saw him there. The implied knowledge came from others who know him and they stay clear of him.

"the gauntlet has been thrown!"
Ahahahaha I can imagine that! I actually start to adore Jun's "character"........... a bit... an unconfirmed source in Japan says Jun has been failing to go through the trial before #32 and the reason Inui/prod. allowed him to compete again was because during the interview, he thrown something like Isaac did out i.e. "too bad you're not going to put someone who can actually defeat the course". Now I'm 99% sure that was a truth...

To be fair to Jun though, he hasn't been in Japan in 5 years so it's not like he has been failing qualifiers/auditions. He didn't enter them. As for the rest.. yeah that sounds quite plausible given the history with both Inui and Jun's personalities. Giggles. That's a funny story.

Aside from the insane amount of first stage cuts/digests, and the slippery conveyor belt, I thought it was pretty good. "Fluff pieces" and general between-run talk seemed more tightly edited than usual, and the commercials seemed better placed too. First stage seemed have a lot of production junk laying around/uncovered. I mean, it's nice to see a show with a little "wabi", but this seemed messier than usual. I really didn't like the obstacle at the start of the second stage. IMO, upper body precision obstacles should always be saved for third stage. Then following it up with the Salmon Ladder was a recipe for disaster, IMO. At least the Wall Lift was a bit easier than usual.

He really did SUCK IT -kind of gesture? LMFAO, this much i haven't laughed since.. Cocky Takeda in 31 i guess Imagine for getting the fastest time and totally flipping everyone around by screaming ''SUCK IT'' and doing that gesture.. It's a shame if he is really a*****e though, because in wrestling i would love something like that

So much this. I was studying in Kansai Gaidai for a while (about halfway between Kyoto and Osaka), and ended up carrying around a washcloth just to wipe sweat out of my face.

I sorta wish they kept in the crotch chop + the middle finger LOL. Totally not Sasuke-like, but that sounds f***ing hilarious.

Did we ever learn why Drew was wearing earbuds during his runs? Is it something people do to keep them warm or...well more focused?

I feel like this isn't the most important contribution to this thread, but for those who aren't sure (and/or curious on the stats) Jun did in fact finish Stage 1 with a slightly faster time than Drew (32.06 seconds vs. Drew's 31.31---yes I went through the effort of frame-by-frame analysis to figure that out ). I don't really approve of his attitude though, as I feel it's very distasteful in terms of the spirit of SASUKE (reminds me of Levi in 21, and even then he wasn't outright arrogant like Jun apparently was).

It was kinda annoying how half of the 2nd stage competitors didn't know how to get up the SL...

It was kinda annoying how half of the 2nd stage competitors didn't know how to get up the SL... Definitely a reversal in the "power creep" skill level increase we've seen in competitors over the last 10 years, I know what you mean.

Did we ever learn why Drew was wearing earbuds during his runs? Is it something people do to keep them warm or...well more focused? Why would he use earbuds to keep himself warm? lol It's just to listen to music.
