Am I the only one who cringed when they saw Ricky Vu? I feel so bad for him since what happened to him should never happen to someone when they're running the course. It's even worse when you saw how energetic he was and how painful it must've been for him to be taken off the course. It's just scary to see something like that happen. Especially scary how they have to try get him down from the high steps. I remember hearing a story about some woman in a ANW 9 qualifier hurting herself on those steps too, and it wasnt easy to get her out.

Always enjoy seeing Drew destroy the course! Jessie did really good too. Did they digest Brett Sims? I may have just missed him, know didn't see him in the top 15 listing.

Your muscles seize up, and he was high up on a step over water, and you don't want to fall into the water in that state.

He failed the Salmon Ladder Ok, must've just missed it then. It's crazy how veteran ninjas still sometimes fail at the salmon ladder. Shows even the old obstacles can't be underestimated.

He is strong enough to finish the course if he didn't fall.

Really good episode, so glad I got to be there live for this one.
Some very sad stories but I was very impressed with the runs. The success-rate was somewhat similar to San Antonio too! I know that's not exactly a positive, but it was great watching it from the audience and having the last runner be the only to clear. And being right in front of Jessie doing the split on the Giant Cubes was great. Everyone was going crazy for both of those runs. Great run for JJ too and glad they got some airtime for the girl with cancer as that's something that can be helped.
A bit disappointed to see no modifications made to the first half (I guess I miss their way of doing it last year where several obstacles were modified between Qualifying to Semi-Finals. The Salmon Ladder took no prisoners this week! The Giant Cubes were a pretty good addition - and a Spider Flip-esque jump. The first part where you have to climb on the first cube using the ledges reminded me of the I-Beam Cross vertical portion in that you needed a lot of power to get up! Very good seeing the smart idea of using the slanted bar to climb up with his (less-drained) core rather than his grip too!
The Circuit Board is still tough. I didn't see the need for the second set of handles - maybe they added them in last-minute after they realized how hard the course was and encouraged the competitors to transfer to the handles and do a long lache to dismount? I could see them doing something to try to get at least one clear. The Elevator Climb is still hard! Funny that it wasn't as deadly the first time - a similar number of people reached it that time, I think. I guess the course before it didn't use though muscles as much so it allowed that region to have more clears than the others we've seen so far? Glad they put the safety glass there. I was never that worried about falling through the rails, but I think it'll make it so people can't do what Daniel Gill did and hook their legs so much that they could fall out of the chute if they dropped. They should make the bar they wanted contestants to climb up to red, though, because most stuff you're supposed to touch is red!
Very good episode. Waiting for Crashing the Course Cleveland.

Terrible editing again.
Only one run left, no POM awarded yet, not even Jessie making it to obstacle 10, so you know what's following. Not that it came as a surprise though... JJ's stepdad yelling "you're gonna be the first finisher". I'm sure in the real event JJ ran much later than shown on TV. That said everything about all those who run before him. Travis Rosen digested twice. Several competitors shown from the 5th obstacle on.

I'm not sure how you're going to put fault on producers for that one. JJ had a slow time, so he likely ran earlier. I certainly wasn't able to distinguish anything from that.

Several competitors shown from the 5th obstacle on. They had to fit 34 runs in a less than hour and a half window, and they still cut 3 people entirely. If there's nothing exciting that happens in someone's run up to their ultimate result, especially if they may have been featured significantly during qualifying, why wouldn't they have a truncated run? Do some people get the double digest if they clear when a lot of people clear in qualifying but they aren't the fastest or they fail where everyone else does? Sure, and for vets it stinks but that's part of the risk if you're a vet without a particularly substantial life update.

Terrible editing again. Travis Rosen digested twice. And Stratis too, which surprised me even more given that they've acknowledged how popular he is.

Terrible editing again. Travis Rosen digested twice. And Stratis too, which surprised me even more given that they've acknowledged how popular he is. It's long established that if you're a vet who consistently succeeds but doesn't necessarily have any substantial life update you could include in a profile package, you're probably getting digested. Strat cleared qualifying but he wasn't a particularly fast time (only 5 people got full clears shown to begin with) and was one of seven Giant Cubes fails (when only two people who failed there got shown in full). Travis had the unfortunate luck of having his top time demolished by Drew, the top male star of the episode and the only Circuit Board fail fully shown was the creator of the Wingnuts, who was never gonna be digested, especially when you have a story like "had to walk-on only to be surprised to see your idea on the course you're competing in". Also, it should be noted last year Strat and Rosen had two runs shown in full and one run digested (Strat had a full qualifying run, digested city finals run and was the first run shown in Vegas -- Rosen had a digested qualifying run, had the Run of the Night in city finals when he wasn't even the top finisher and had his fluke Snake Run fail shown start to finish when he easily could have been digested for that). So it's not as if there's some conspiracy against them; they were featured pretty consistently last season and per the typical ANW revolving door edit, given their results, were put in the digest cycle this time around.

Here's our final regional stat piece! (I'm waiting for Vegas hehehehe) Daytona Qualifiers 115 Runners Floating Steps: 11 Fails Rolling Pin: 25 Fails (Weird obstacle) Wingnuts: 40 Fails (WOW) Broken Bridge: 6 Fails Rolling Thunder: 15 Fails Warped Wall: 0 Fails Clears: 18 (Fastest Clear: Drew Drechsel) Consensus: Wingnuts are fun and really were the soul of this course.
City Finals 34 Runners Floating Steps: 1 Fail Rolling Pin: 1 Fail Wingnuts: 2 Fails Broken Bridge: 1 Fail Rolling Thunder: 4 Fails Warped Wall: 0 Fails Salmon Ladder: 6 Fails Giant Cubes: 11 Fails Circuitboard: 4 Fails Elevator Climb: 3 Fails Clears: 1 (Drew Drechsel) Consensus: This course was tough and the Salmon Ladder held no prisoners.
