On the other side though, SASUKE is more than a month away and Inui hasn't even finished editing the tournament (started doing so some days ago). How could they possibly know the EXACT time duration?

Definitely not an expert on how it works but I'd assume he's given the tv airing time slot in advance and edits based around that.

Never really cared to look into that, but if this is the way the whole thing rolls, it sucks to be the guy who edits a 2-day tournament. I have a bad feeling about this then.

Ok so based off of what Healing Space Anju are screaming (Takeda's workplace) SASUKE is airing on the 26th of March? I think that's what I'm getting. 6:30pm to 8:30pm their time. So just... 2 hours? Interesting... Now they could be wrong so take this information with a grain of salt. No way is there a set date or time yet; I doubt even Inui knows when he'll be finished editing.

He should and does. As part of his contract it's withing 6 weeks of taping. He has a time set to edit down into - that's part of it otherwise it's time wasted and there is no such thing as an editor's cut. He knows how long it's going to be. Also, they always make an announcement during taping (At or after Stage 1) but they gave themselves some leeway though with the announcement on twitter that they will formally announce the date 2 week prior to give Inui some wiggle room if he's behind schedule. So while that is the projected date, they reserve the right to move it. As for the duration.. that sounds legit. Agreed with Psycho.. this doesn't bode well. Edit: Also, Takeda gains nothing by lying. That is what he was told along with everyone else. TBS can change that which is why they mentioned that they will do a formal announcement within the 2 week window of the official airing. Either way. I'll go back to lurking here. LOL I just wanted to point that out for those who are not familiar with how these things are set up ahead of time.

Yeah considering the short length, I am certain there's some crazy Stage 2 renewal.

Yeah considering the short length, I am certain there's some crazy Stage 2 renewal. That's not how it works though. Times for broadcast are set before the taping even begins. They tell the talent the dates/time as well at the taping well before anyone hits the 2nd stage. So that should not be used as a measure of how well/badly the tournament was as a whole. TBS gave them a slot (which is the reason why we are recording in the winter) and the rest of the schedule is already filled. To be honest, the days of 4 hour broadcast are far behind us now.

(trying to remember.. seriously forgot) that we even got 3 hour tourneys and then 4 hour ones. It's just badly done these days with questionable decisions on edits. There's a whole thread on what went wrong with 32. I just wanted to let you know that looking at the proposed/rumored time should not be a direct result of any outcomes, etc. That is set up way before anyone touches an obstacle. That is a scheduling decision by the part of TBS.

Well I understand this being an anniversary tournament and all, with "vintage" competitors etc. but I didn't expect the duration to go "vintage" as well. Still, after some thought I believe that 2 hours MAY make for a good show. First of all we won't have the idiotic celebrity panel that I really hated so that's practically 15-20 mins saved. Now, considering the editing job Inui's going to do, I really hope that he'll avoid presenting guys like Tsukada and Darvish for 10 minutes and will only show fluff pieces for the final 10 or so competitors. Part of me hopes that something good may come out of this but if it's going to end up like SASUKE 32, only with more FFs and cuts then shame's on him/them.

Time in and of itself is not an excuse and COULD be done correctly. I am just not hopeful given he hasn't accepted that the furor from last year was a direct result of HOW the show was presented and not the actual result. He just says he couldn't help the weather... Given that.. I expect the same result when it comes to the editing.

Given that.. I expect the same result when it comes to the editing. He has a hard time taking the blame anyway. 2 tournaments ago he was again apologising profusely on the Nico Nico broadcast as far as I can remember but each year it's like nothing happened. The ratings are going up so I guess that's all he cares for in the end. Without Nagano competing though I expect this tournament to go below double digits again so maybe this will shake him up a little bit. He has turned SASUKE into a 3-hour commercial for celebrities and TV shows, while ironically we've had some very dramatic tournaments that could bring SASUKE back where it belongs with proper treatment. It's a shame isn't it?

Honestly I would put up with it until it can't more or less almost single-handedly keep SASUKE alive, if you know what i'm saying. I don't like it, but I won't go around shaming it until it doesn't serve it's purpose.
To be clear i'm not trying to pick on anyone, just saying my opinion.

I'm not sure anyone ever said anything in the history of anything was too short– only that things could be edited or presented better. In entertainment, it's rarely about the length, it's all about the content!

To be fair SASUKE 29 was around the same length and even 17 was there too. I think this will be exciting if anything.

Sasuke 20 was a 4 hour broadcast because it was the 20th tournament "anniversary" special and they kept at around that time, although since this was around the time the american community was becoming a thing we kind of got used to the 3-4 hour broadcasts around here
