Yeah, a new motor obstacle. I figured. Sasuke obstacles have turned into a recycling bin and it's kind of disappointing, but whatever. M9 budget spoiled me. I wasn't the only one? I thought it would be some kind of spinning Shingo-Derp-Bait thing

If it is the Fishbone (which seems quite likely) it has the potential to cause some upset. {Spoiler} Given it took out a good chunk of the RED Stage competitors in Kunoichi 9. And given their record on obstacles like this in the RISING era (and beyond) we should be more worried for Takeda!

Still can't really see the 'stepping stone' poles at the bottom, but the only other potential option is that it's just a re-jigged Hedgehog, which wouldn't make any sense.

M9 recycled everything.. literally everything. And yeah that video is epic. I figured they were across the street IN TBS and zoomed in. I hope he doesn't get in trouble but oh well.. he posted it on social media for everyone to see. I guess. I mean obviously both used the same materials for everything, but TBS more so than M9 simply keeps the reused stuff in the same obstacle position (e.g. Log Grip -> TIE Fighter), and grab from the past way more. M9 did to some extent too, but was definitely way more experimental with their course design. I understand why TBS can't necessarily compare, of course.

I think he may be referring to the short stretch of time where the build team would add in a single one-off, wildcard obstacle to stage 1 from Sasuke 10 to 17. It wasn't really that much crazier but it felt a smidge more unpredictable.

It is not the same, I'm pretty sure the Music Box is getting replaced with what might be the Fishbone from Kunoichi 9. 20 bucks says Shingo Fails that. Shingo fails it but not by getting hit by the apparatus. He just loses his balance because God knows he's good at that.

Give examples because the same build team exists now and then. I don't see how M9 was better or worse than Now. Sasuke 28, the entire first stage is old obstacles either completely replicated or slightly modified in some way ( Two warped walls, instead of one, two jump hang nets instead of one). They changed some things in the first stage post-29, but the formula has been rigid since. Obstacle 2 is always gonna use the log grip track, obstacle three is gonna use the motor, last three obstacles are wall, rope, and climb. Then for an added kick they added back old obstacles like the Tackle in conjunction with the Wall, which I really liked, and think it was a great idea, but it's still recycled. Yeah, Pre-28 did the same thing where they just altered the cliffhanger or salmon ladder, or like how in 26 they practically brought back pre-25's first stage and changed a few things. The difference that I see is that those continually reused obstacles like the Jumping Slider, Half-Pipe Attack, Rope Climb (and yeah, they also followed a format on Stage 1 where the trampoline obstacle was #4, Half-Pipe was #5... you get the picture)... those obstacles were new, and innovative, and not from that long ago. Post Rising era all the new obstacles are either recycled (e.g. Roller Hill), functionally altered (e.g. Hedgehog -> Music Box -> Fishbone), or just really not that creative imo (e.g. Long Jump and Lumberjack climb). 18-27 dished out cool stuff all the time like the Half-Pipe Attack, Rolling Escargot, etc. Yeah, they also recycled ideas to some extent, like the Great Wall was a higher Warped Wall with a rope on top, but these obstacles were always in tandem with unused ideas. The second and third stages got revamps in 28, but haven't seen any substantial change since (Now we have two crazy cliffhangers, and three verticle limits. But let's bring back the pipe slider, curtain cling, flying bar, etc. Some ideas are just bad, like the Swap Salmon Ladder, arguably the Backstream, and the Passing Wall, although some (very few) are innovative: Drum Hopper and Sidewinder. The 3rd stage now just switches obstacle positions and makes stuff harder without actually adding anything. Again, pre-28 did recycle old obstacles as well, but new obstacles always were on the rise more. Some may argue this all comes down to preference. I know that I am personally biased by the fact that I naturally like a bigger, badder Stage 1, but I still think my criticisms are fair. Obstacles are one of the biggest things that draw me to Sasuke, and I know that I feel that the "magic" has subsided a bit since Rising. Others may disagree. Edit: Just gonna amend one thing here. The Double Pendulum I'm torn on. It's probably the one 1st Stage obstacle from post-28 I see as creative, but then again ATS contributed to it as well.

They kept the warped walls and the spinning balls, steps and escargo pretty much everything else since then had to be rebuilt

Everything else though is IMO a matter of opinion and I can see why you feel that way. I don't see the difference personally but I can see why you think that way. I just disagree.

I think it's fair to point out two things: time and budget. The current budget they are given doesn't even touch Shin-Sasuke's and looks downright shameful compared to ATS for ANW. There's a self-serving cycle where TBS isn't willing to waste much resources on a property that doesn't get that strong of ratings even though if you want to potentially raise the stock of a show you have to promote it and let people know it's on which people in Japan have routinely expressed amazement that it is (never mind people who never heard of it) because this year it's 20 years old. It is full on niche. You can't innovate without resources and the ability to create clunkers that you can trash or ideas you just never use again. And we definitely got some clunkers with all the cool stuff we did get for Shin Sasuke. There were 18 obstacles that were only used once in a tournament during 18-27, and a couple of those could have reasonably been used again. 28 was a hard reset because they had to rebuild everything from scratch because M9's assets had to be liquidated as a result of going bankrupt, it's not like they were just given to TBS. Most, if not all, were destroyed. I've certainly not heard someone end up with a M9 obstacle as a trinket they've bought.

I stated so previously, so I understand more so than I would if money wasn't a problem.

I think because the original team is there and they have proven to be innovative it would be nice to be allowed to see that. I do see your point though that it's frustrating as a fan to see that stagnation. Though at least things like the tic toc/double pendulum collab (among others actually) it's at least a possibility to see more stuff. Personally I like the Fishbone seeing it in action in Kunoichi. Should prove interesting given how much balance you need with that along with commitment to clear it.

After looking at Sasuke's "fishbone" again.. doesn't the spinning cylinder actually look bigger than it was in KNI?

Hey, I hate to double post, but I just realized something. Look at the final stage tower, the salmon ladder has less notches and bigger gaps in them.
